Tues.-Thurs., November 1-3, 2022
With Halloween behind us, we quickly moved on to the popular Mexican holiday on November 1st and 2nd known as the Día de los Muertos.
It is intended as a day of prayer and
remembrance for friends
and family who have passed away
On Día de los Muertos, hand made calaveras or sugar skulls like the dark orange one on the back right are symbolic of a dear departed soul.
As you can see, the brightly decorated calavera concept has expanded to plates, trays, candles and figurines.
Laurie even has a Día de los Muertos
tee-shirt in her vast wardrobe
It has become a fun day in Southern California due to our large Mexican-American history, roots and population.
Until it wasn't . . .
Camarillo Stingers Coach Ryan Amico
during the early part of the season
Coach Ryan served as the Defensive Coordinator with the Stingers Freshman team, the one whose roster included our grandson Jacob.
We were shocked to find out Wednesday morning the Coach Ryan died unexpectedly Tuesday night. As you can see in this photo, he appeared to be quite fit and was only in his early 40s.
This was simply a shock to all of us who watched him enthusiastically coach our young people every night.
Jacob and his 9, 10 and 11 year old
teammates will have to now work through
what for many is their first brush with
mortality
The Stingers players, coaches, parents and families will meet for a "practice" on Friday evening to talk and sort things out in their shared grief.
R.I.P. Coach Ryan
