It is hard to beat any day on the Hawaiian island of Maui including, of course, this one.
We opted to start our day of wandering in the village of Pa'ia on the north shore of the island that marks the official start of the grueling/enchanting Road to Hana.
Laurie and I drove on that famed highway 40 years ago on our first visit to Hawaii and really have no interest in doing it again.
So, we entered Pa'ia with a simple goal find a nice spot to enjoy fish tacos for lunch.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
The Cafe Mambo's funky decor
We were all happy with our dining choices. My ahi tacos were top notch!
Room for dessert?
This one was closed until 1:00 p.m.
Paia Gelato was open NOW!
A mint stracciatella gelato cone was the obvious choice for me.
Good advice from the Paia Gelateria
You just don't see this in Camarillo
Mark Johnson's Gender Reveal Party
There are some nice public art
figures in Pa'ia
Her's another one
The ladies were shopped out, so we were off to Ho'okipa Beach to see surfers, wind surfers and sea turtles up close and personal.
Sarah who is Mallory Johnson's classmate at the University of Washington and a Marine Biology major is with us thus making this stop a highly interesting one when we saw the sea turtles.
But first . . .
If there are waves on Maui,
there are surfers
Ho'okipa Beach is serene on
this windswept afternoon
More of Maui's rugged coastline
SURF'S UP!
There may be an impending
chicken shortage in the USA but
apparently not on Maui
Let's go see those sea turtles
There's one now
OOPS!
A Zen Church near the shore
We headed to Maui's
Up Country city of Makawao
Was it a den of iniquity?
No, it was definitely not, instead it was a yet another opportunity to shop for future family treasures.
Even more fowl, a hallmark
of all that is rural on Maui
Today was great, what will Sunday bring?
