I opted for a quiet, stay at home Sunday to peruse and evaluate today's announcement by FIDAF, our national governing body for American football, of the revised DII schedule for the 2020 season.
As you may recall, a revision of both our 2020 DII leagues and schedules was necessitated by the last minute defection from DII of the West Coast Raiders last week. Their decision to not play at this level dropped DII down to 20 teams.
When we had 21 clubs, FIDAF opted for three, seven team leagues.
Now down to 20 squads, FIDAF decided to go with four, five team conferences.
Here are the four leagues or Girones
The Skorpions are in Girone C this year.
This is our schedule that
includes eight games and
five BYE weeks
2020 Skorpions Schedule
Feb. 29 vs. Modena Vipers
March 7 at Savona Pirates
March 14 vs. Reggio Emilia Hogs
March 21 BYE
March 28 BYE
April 4 at Monza Brianza Hammers
April 11 BYE
April 18 BYE
April 25 at Modena Vipers
May 2 vs. Savona Pirates
May 9 at Reggio Emilia Hogs
May 16 BYE
May 23 vs. Monza Brianza Hammers
We have no word yet as to the structure or dates of the 2020 DII playoffs but traditionally 12 teams have been seeded into them.
In the past, the top four seeds got first round byes with the lower seeded eight squads playing in a Wild Card round to start the post-season tournament.
My only foray out of the Villa Scorpion II today was to join our neighbor, Santa Barbara, for our weekly trip to the Esselunga Supermarket in search of major provisions.
I'm loving Esselunga's Star Wars
related giveaway!
It is supposed to be one figure per 25 Euros spent but over the last three trips to our local Esselunga, I have noted cashiers with differing math skills, e.g., I was given three of these today but only spent 45.50 Euros.
I think that the Good Guys have the white bases while the Evil Empire pieces have gray bases.
I'll need help on this theory as I can not really claim any degree of expertise on characters after the original three Star Wars installments.
What will tomorrow bring . . .
