Jam-Packed American Football Sunday

Sunday, 12 June, 2016:

It was a typical Swedish Summer day with the weather alternating between sunny and warm and brisk and windy.

In other words, A GREAT DAY FOR AMERICAN FOOTBALL!!!

At 10:00 a.m., the Warriors' three U11 teams (Packers, Steelers and Vikings) journeyed to Sollentuna to play their three Stars counterparts (Chargers, Redskins and Saints).

We were scheduled to play three, seven-man, 40 minute running time games but quickly ran into a hitch.

The Saints team only had five players show up. We waited a while but finally the Stars opted to add the Saints to the Chargers and Redskins.

Due to time restraints and now only five squads, it wound up that our Packers played two games while the Steelers and Vikings each played a single contest. The two Sollentuna teams each played two games.

I got to be a referee today.

Of our three U11 teams, the Vikings are my personal favorite. They are made up of the programs newest players and have struggled early on.

Coach Dan has remained extremely positive during the tough times and continued to hammer home the fundamentals to the Vikings.

As for my Vikings, they beat Redskins 12-6, their first victory of the Spring!

It was a really good feeling for all Vikings everywhere!!!!!

At 2:00 p.m., it was back to the Warriors home field for a U15 mini-tournament playing seven-man football instead of this age groups normal 11-man version.

The Warriors would be divided into three teams each with their own playbook that each team devised on their own the last few days. Players were highly encouraged to play out of their normal positions. For our club, this was strictly a for fun day.

Our opponents would be two U15 teams from Arlanda and Sollentuna.

I got to be a referee today.

Again.

This wound up being
a Warriors TD pass!

This wound up being a really good day for our U15 kids. They had fun and their passion for the game continues to grow.

After the U15 games, I had
to trudge the two minutes
back to Icelandia III

Fortunately, no pack of wolves descended upon me on my way home.
