A FULL American Football Day

Tuesday, 14 June, 2016:

Up bright and early for a 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. American football training session with 11, 12 and 13 year olds from Väsby Skola.

Thank goodness that we had lots of P.E. teachers from the school as well as several ex-Wäsby Warriors and current U17 Arlanda Jets to help us.

Of course, the ever present Aiki Parts was with us to organize things and keep us all on task.

Warm-Up Passing Lines

 Lots of young girls learned
about the game today

We opted to break the 40 kids into three groups and created a three station circuit to teach them the basics of American football.

 Group 1 worked on Catching
and Passing Techniques

Group 2 worked on
Blocking Techniques

"Hey, are you guys having fun?"

Group 3 worked on
Tackling Techniques

Aiki is in front showing them a good hit position.

We had a warm day of practice on an artificial surface, so lots of water breaks were necessary. I was pleased that the kids fought through it and paid attention.

Now it was time to play a little . . .

. . . Flag Football

 Nice Cut-Back

Bombs Away!

This pass was a bit off the mark

While most of the girls called me Santa Claus, the girl on the right once called me dude. I told simply, "No toys for you this Christmas."

She laughed.

After the workout we were invited to head back to Väsby Skola for a fish lunch for free.

Who was I to say no?

Once in their cafeteria, a young boy who immigrated to Sweden from Turkey and did well in our practice session asked me to eat lunch with him and a young girl who I think will join the Warriors. I was honored.

The afternoon was devoted to laundry first and grocery shopping second before heading out to our 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. U13 practice.

 Warm-Up Shuffle

Digging Caroline's pants

Coaching up the WR corps

It was a GREAT DAY FOR AMERICAN FOOTBALL!!!
