It was Game Day again for Jacob's Las Colinas Mustangs Middle School Coed Flag Football team, a chance to bounce back from Monday's 27-0 loss to the Santa Rosa Eagles.
The Mustangs were in good spirits
when we arrived at the field
It was a BEAUTIFUL day for
American football!
How could you expect anything else for the Mustangs' first home game of the season?
The game was against a new opponent that we had not played last year.

1 Win - 1 Loss
For purposes of blog brevity, University Preparation Charter School will be simply referred to as UPCS which is the norm in Camarillo educational circles.
While I had cheerfully accepted the role of Team Photographer . . .
. . . son Michael was happy to be
the Mustangs' Down Marker
The Mustangs Kicked Off to start the contest
I did mention that it was a BEAUTIFUL
day for American football, didn't I?
Although it was definitely warm and a tad muggy on the sidelines today.
Could this be Holding by the
Dolphins Tackle?
A Dolphin RB trying to turn the corner
Black uniformed Mustangs in a
defensive pincer movement
Mustangs RB in the open field
This Mustang actually hung on
to make this finger tip circus catch . . .
. . . which almost ended being a TD
but his flags were pulled just shy
of the Goal Line
The Mustangs would draw first blood on the next play.
Good pass blocking by the Dolphins
on this throw up the field
A ballet-like incomplete pass
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Thus explaining the pink socks on this Las Colinas punt returner.
The Mustangs QB launched one DEEP . . .
. . . the pass was tipped . . .
. . . and caught on the rebound in
spectacular fashion to end the
first ten minutes of play
End of the First Quarter
Las Colinas Mustangs - 8
UPCS Dolphins - 0
More Trench Warfare
Offensive Tackles vs. Defensive Ends
The Mustangs QB racing up the
sidelines on a long TD scamper
Defending a Dolphins Sweep play
I liked UPCS's blue football that matched their jerseys.
An INTENSE look in this Mustang's eyes
Long striding Las Colinas RB
Mustangs working the short passing game
This last play of the Second Quarter . . .
. . . led to a nice cutback and . . .
. . . another Mustangs TD!
Halftime
Las Colinas Mustangs - 21
UPCS Dolphins - 0
A new Las Colinas RB trying to
get to the edge . . .
. . . he did indeed turn the corner!
So did our QB a few plays later
The second pass of the Mustangs
ballyhooed Double Pass play
Pass blocking is a MUST to
be successful in flag football!
Jacob, #24, protecting the Mustangs
left handed QB's blind side
Another excellent Las Colinas
QB scramble that finished . . .
. . . with a bit of bravado!
A short pass over the Dolphins rush . . .
. . . was complete and included a long run
An excellent job by the Mustangs #10
leaping to avoid a block in the back penalty
There was lots of action in this quarter but no scoring as both defenses came up with big plays when absolutely needed.
End of the Third Quarter
Las Colinas Mustangs - 21
UPCS Dolphins - 0
Where are the Dolphins?
Nice play by this Mustangs' DE
Jacob on a Fly Sweep
He was outnumbered at the point of attack and was lucky to get back to the original line of scrimmage.
Jacob blitzing from an OLB position
Good pursuit and flag pull vs.
a Dolphin with AWESOME cleats!
Not just a Hold by this Dolphin,
a possible Choke Hold!
Mustangs' Defensive Pressure from both DEs
Lots of leaping and a fine catch
by the Dolphins receiver
I'm still loving the Dolphins' blue football.
Good job by this Mustang turning the
RB back into the Las Colinas pursuit . . .
. . . see what I mean?
Jacob in man-to-man coverage
This last gasp Dolphins aerial
was too hot for the first two
players to handle . . .
. . . and too hot for the third one as well
Just as in the Third Quarter, both defenses played well in key situations as neither club scored.
Final Score
Las Colinas Mustangs (2-1) - 21
UPCS Dolphins - 0
The Mustangs played a solid game from start to finish and got the much needed, confidence boosting win today.
The Mustangs' next game will be played at Las Colinas Middle School at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th against the always dangerous Los Primeros School of Sciences and Arts Panthers.
It should be another rousing barn burner!
