On a cool, overcast afternoon, we travelled to Oxnard's Pacifica H.S. for Jacob's Camarillo Stingers Pop Warner "home" football game.
It shaped up to be another tough, critical game for the Stingers in a Junior American Conference duel in the Gold Coast Youth Football League.
Santa Clarita Wildcats White
3 Wins - 2 Losses
at
Camarillo Stingers Blue
4 wins - 1 Loss
Captains Out
The Stingers kicked off to start the game
Covering said kick off
This Wildcats RB was a good one!
Closing in on the tackle
Good Pass Rush
Pursuit would be the key
As Santa Clarita was a run heavy
club, the Battle in the Trenches
would be heated today
An excellent straight arm,
DAMN IT!
One-on-one tackles were too plentiful
The Wildcats ability to run the ball ate up most of the First Quarter but the Stingers' Defense was eventually able to stop them.
End of the First Quarter
Santa Clarita - 0
Camarillo - 0
The Stingers eschewed the run in
favor of the passing game
This receiver's catch drew an angry crowd
Camarillo kept slinging it all over the field
Pass blocking was essential all afternoon
Ballet battle for the ball
used a lot of Cover Two
Good job blocking the Wildcats DE
BOMBS AWAY!
Stingers' DL on the attack
The race to the edge
A near Camarillo interception
COMPETE!
The Wildcats were knocking on the door
Santa Clarita would score a TD on the next play and then recover their Onside Kick.
The Art of Pass Catching/Defending
High Pointing the football
Goodness, he hung on to it!
A solid tackle for a loss to
end the First Half
Halftime Score
Santa Clarita - 8
Camarillo - 0
The Wildcats Onside Kicked
to start the Third Quarter
As the ball did not travel the necessary ten yards, the Stingers started the Third Stanza with good field position.
Oddly, Camarillo would not call one running play in the entire Second Half.
Get ready to pass block, boys
Scrambling was a good option here
Trying to recapture leverage on the
perimeter of the Stingers' Defense
Much better leverage on this play
Gang tackling Stingers
Pass blocking usually comes down
to individual, one-on-one battles
Jacob speeding past a Wildcat CB
Good pressure by both Stingers DEs
Defensive leverage is again an issue
A lot of territory was won and lost by both teams between the 30 yard lines but there were no serious threats to the Red Zone in the Third Quarter.
End of the Third Quarter
Santa Clarita - 8
Camarillo - 0
Both squads kept fighting
down after down
A rare Wildcats' pass
A not so rare Stingers' pass
Jacob and a Wildcat CB saying
hello to each other
A good move in the open field
by this Stinger
This run after catch aided the Stingers'
cause as time was running out
Though lined up to Punt, Camarillo
faked it and threw a pass
It was an incomplete pass, unfortunately.
Defending yet another Wildcats' Sweep
RUN!
Good defensive leverage on this Sweep
A solid Stingers' tackle on
a good Wildcats RB
The Stingers' Defense continued
to shine to the end
Just as was the case in the Third Quarter, both clubs moved the ball between the 30 yard lines but the Red Zone remained unvisited in the final period.
Final Score
Santa Clarita (4-2) - 8
Camarillo (4-2) - 0
Not the outcome that we wanted, but the score was fitting as two fairly evenly matched teams both played good, physical football today.
Pizza at the nearby Topper's in Oxnard after the game took a little bit of the edge off of the loss.
Up next for the Stingers is a game on Saturday, October 12th at 4:00 p.m. at Camarillo H.S.
In this final contest of the 2024 regular season. The Camarillo Stingers (4-2) will be hosting the Saugus Spartans Grey (1-5) team who had a bye today.
Go Stingers GO!
