Another Fun Lunch With the "Husky Legends"

Tuesday, October 8, 2024

Our friend, Mark Johnson, likes to organize all sorts of social gatherings. Today, in Culver City, was one of his always fun gatherings.

Sorry, I digress . . .

Today's event was meant to
reunite Husky alums who attended
the University of Washington in the
late 1960s/early 1970s

All of us, except for Mark who lives in Seattle, are now living in Southern California.

Mark labeled these meetings that usually occur a couple of times a year as "Husky Legends Lunches."

We meet in Culver City, which is about half way for all of us from Orange to Ventura Counties, because Mark is down on business and usually flys out of nearby LAX right after our shared, boisterous lunches.

Contreras, Tom Faila, Mark Johnson and
Loren Brucker

We usually have three or four more Huskies in the house but this was a last minute gathering that Mark announced on Sunday night.

Even Legends have lives it appears.

After two and a half hours, the festivities came to an end and instead of fighting the 405/101 freeway traffic home, I opted to take the scenic Pacific Coast Highway to get home.

I opted to stop at the Malibu Bluffs Park to relax and read some more of my latest David Baldacci action novel.

The view of Pepperdine University
to the East of the park . . .

. . . and the view of the
Pacific Ocean to the West of the park

The Malibu Little League's field at the
park looks out to the Pacific Ocean

Can there be a better setting for a ball game anywhere in the Little League universe than this one?

I voted for him in the Los Angeles
Chargers weekly poll

You should too.

A big win in London over the weekend
for powerhouse De La Salle (6-0)

London's NFL Academy houses the best high school aged American football players from all over Europe with aspirations of playing college football in the states one day.

Two BIG high school games coming
up at SoFi Stadium, the home of
the NFL's Rams and Chargers

I really could not care less about the Servite Friars (6-0) vs. St. John Bosco Braves (6-0) game.

On the other hand, the 89th annual East Los Angeles Classic is of interest.

The Garfield Bulldogs (5-2) vs. the Roosevelt Roughriders (3-3) is a great Eastern League game every year no matter what the teams' records may be. Intense but friendly pride is at stake for the players, coaches, parents and alumni of these two high schools that represent two distinct communities within East Los Angeles.

While this game is usually played at East Los Angeles College, in 2022 this game was played in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the Black Eyed Peas performing at halftime and now they meet in SoFi Stadium. Awesome!

What makes it even better is that it will be a triple header with the JV game at 3:30 p.m., the Girls Flag Football contest at 6:00 p.m. and then the Varsity battle at 7:30 p.m.

This sounds too good to pass up.

The Washington Huskies (4-2) play
another BIG-10 game on Saturday on
the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-2)

We Los Angeles Rams fans (1-4) are
ever hopeful and somewhat arrogant

I'm still waiting for Edition II of this with the other 25 states to pop up on Facebook.

DAMN!

After tonight's game, the San Diego Padres lead the best-of-five NLDS over our Los Angeles Dodgers, two games to one.

Game Four is Wednesday night in San Diego again.

Laurie sent me this and now the
entire neighborhood is on Red Alert

Due to my fasting and the Husky Legends
Lunch, I missed out on Taco Tuesday

Maybe we'll have a Taco Wednesday
at a new spot in Camarillo?

Reading Is FUNdamental

A page turner to be sure!

This is the 13th Baldacci action novel that I've read over the years and they have all been excellent. I highly recommend him as an author for you to investigate in the future.
