Mon.-Sun., June 5-11, 2023
This was an excellent week on many levels.
We'll start with the best part, grandson Jacob's Promotion Ceremony to intermediate school on Friday.
Jacob with his school's Principal
receiving his Promotion Certificate
It was a well organized ceremony
that made us all so proud
The Jacob Contreras Fan Club
was "IN THE HOUSE!"
Two happy grandparents
to be sure
Jacob and Mary
More celebrating once we
got back to Jacob's home
Jacob's Promotion Certificate
None of us was expecting this
Only a select few of the children in attendance were honored with this President's Education Awards Program certificate.
Jacob's Fan Club was completely taken aback when his name was announced.
A great honor indeed!
Back on the food trail again . . .
My only new spot this week for lunch
was Cielito Lindo in Los Angeles'
famed Olvera Street
Their three beef taquito plate with a generous helping beans and cheese on the side was definitely the correct choice.
Hard to believe that this Chevron station
located across the street from Cielito Lindo
is packed with customers looking to buy
gasoline at $6.44 a gallon
When I filled up my car that same morning at the Chevron station in Camarillo, a gallon of petrol cost "only" $4.65.
Monday's Camarillo Stingers
Parents Zoom Meeting led the way
to my first practice on Wednesday
That practice was a good one that energized me quite a bit.
Thursday was the 10th Anniversary of
our Bron-Villeurbanne Falcons
2013 French DIII National Championship
It was a BEAUTIFUL night for
American football to be sure
Bron-Villeurbanne Falcons (12-0) 20
Tours Pionniers (9-1) 7
The Spoils of Victory
Time truly does fly, a decade ago now, how is that possible?
Interest is building for
Italian Bowl XLII in Toledo, Ohio
The six teams still fighting
for a trip to Toledo
It started this weekend with
the two Wild Card games
Our beloved Skorpions were
hosting the Milano Rhinos who
they beat 42-7 two weeks ago
It was a lot tougher this time
on many levels
After sprinting out to a comfortable 17-0 lead in the Second Quarter, things went decidedly south.
The Skorpions American import QB suffered an injury that required him to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital at Halftime with the Skorpions aheads 17-7.
Our old friend and starting Strong Safety, Nicolas Principi, filled in as the emergency QB the entire Second Half. He did not throw any passes as the Skorpions Defense was stout and Coach Holt wisely opted to keep the clock running. The #4 Seeded Skorpions are now 5-4 on the year while the #5 Seeded Rhinos end their campaign at 4-5.
In the other Wild Card game, the #3 Seeded Ancona Dolphins (7-2) easily defeated the Lazio Ducks (3-6), 41-18.
IFL Semi-Finals
Saturday, June 17, 2023
#3 Ancona Dolphins (7-2)
at
#2 Firenze Guelfi (7-1)
Sunday, June 18, 2023
#4 Varese Skorpions (5-4)
at
#1 Parma Panthers (7-1)
The two winners will meet in Toledo, Ohio on July 1st, for all of the marbles in Italian Bowl XLII.
The Skorpions Women's
Flag Football team was in Grosseto
trying to win a National Championship
The Skorpions were perfect on Friday with wins over the Catania Elephants 41-13, the Parma Panthers 45-26 and the Trento Thunder 61-26.
Saturday was PERFECT as well!
These three wins came, in order, against the Palermo Sharks, Cernusco Daemons and the Flag Academy of Trieste.
On Sunday, the Women Skorpions were at it one last time. After another win over the Parma Panthers, 26-25, the Varese Women played the Milano Mad Cats for the National Championship.
The Mad Cats won 33-26.
Damn.
On to the European League of Football, Week #2 . . .
ELF Power Rankings
The ELF does a great job promoting itself on all of the social media platforms.
A full slate of games this week
More ELF self-promotion
The Barcelona Dragons (1-0) at
the Milano Seamen (0-0) was
my game of interest
A GREAT win for the Dragons (2-0)
who were predicted to go
2-10 this season!
I'm so happy for Barcelona's GM Bart Iaccarino, one of the truly wonderful men that I have met during my EuroBall days.
