Flag Football, The Ronald Reagan Library, DEFY Thousand Oaks and the Start of One of Life's Least Pleasurable Tasks

Mon.-Thurs., April 11-14, 2022

A busy few days indeed!

We'll start with some late Flag Football news from Italy.

Varese Skorpions pursuing on
DEFENSE!

The Skorpion Women's Flag Football team hosted their first games of the season on Sunday.

Three games,
THREE VICTORIES!

The wins came against three local clubs, the Bergamo Lions, the Milano Sirene and the Busto Arsizio Tempeste.

A great way to start the season by earning the early season bragging rights of Lombardia.

The Skorpions scored 124 points
in those three games . . .
WOW!

Simi Valley is home to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library which our grandson Jacob really enjoys visiting.

The Reagan Library's latest
special exhibit was right up
Jacob's alley

"I didn't do it!"

It took me a second to realize that the tank actually caused the damage.

Remember, before Ronald Reagan became President of the United States, he was a longtime movie actor.

Thus, it was necessary to include some of Hollywood's contributions to the country's morale during those difficult days.

A little extra heavenly protection couldn't hurt, could it?

The exhibit was packed with vintage WWII era senior citizens who I'm sure were reliving their varying levels of involvement in the war effort.

boards about the heroic acts of
The Greatest Generation

Moe Berg's story is quite interesting.
You should look it up.

All in all, this exhibit was
well worth it!

While the Reagan Library has these social exhibits from time to time, they always dedicate the vast majority, as they should, to President Reagan's legacy and memories.

Jacob loves going through this part of the Library every time we visit.

Either Jacob is gaining weight or

A good morning at the Reagan Library followed by lunch at, where else, McDonalds in Thousand Oaks.

From there, I had two errands to run with Jacob that were related.

You may recall that in August I am trying to organize a 50th anniversary celebration of Thousand Oaks High School's 1972 Marmonte League Football Championship team. We needed a place to hold a social gathering for a few hours before being introduced prior to the kickoff of Lancers' opening game of the season. I was an Assistant Coach working with this excellent group of players.

Similarly, in September I am also involved in the 40th anniversary celebration of Westlake High School's 1982 Marmonte League Championship team. They needed a spot for their social gathering before their Warriors game as well. I was the Head Coach of this great team.

Thus, Jacob and I headed first to The Stonehaus in Westlake Village to see if we could meet there with our old-time Warriors.

I think that it will work for our needs.

Next we drove over to the Janss Marketplace Mall to secure the Sunset Terrace Restaurant and Lounge for our gathering before the T.O.H.S. game. Tyrone, the owner/manager of the Sunset Terrace was awesome to work with and we will definitely have our social gathering there in August.

As Jacob was quick to point out, the Janss Marketplace is also home to DEFY Thousand Oaks.

What this plan tries to DEFY is gravity in all sorts of fun ways for a ten year old boy.

What the hell, I signed him up for 90 minutes of varied activities.

He zip lined

He bounced into walls

He jousted with an older boy
who fortunately did NOT try to take
advantage his size

Now, THAT was a full and joyous day!

Back in Camarillo, one should be reminded that the Hilton chain was building a new hotel and convention center near our huge Outlet Mall.

After Tuesday night, the Hilton
Corporation will now be re-building
their Camarillo hotel and convention center

The blaze was still of unknown origin as of this morning but they will now have to decide whether to re-start the project or move on.

A difficult task on Wednesday

My sister Linda and I came away impressed with what this living community has to offer for Senior citizens in need of assisted living.

Unfortunately, our 97 year-old Mother is a serious candidate for a quality place just like this one.

This was definitely a day that no daughter or son ever wants to face.

Reading Is FUNdamental!

Another good read

In my opinion, this Baldacci fella has a chance to become a well read author some day.
