How to Best Recover from the Shingles?

Mon. - Thurs., Oct. 4 - 7, 2021

About two weeks before the start of my bout with shingles, we got a call from Mark and Susie Johnson informing us that due to a cancellation at their Maui rental property, they were going to enjoy a week in Kihei instead.

Would we like to join them?

Well, DUH!

Additionally, Mark had found round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines for us at just $183 per person including all fees and taxes.

GAME ON!

Who knew that it would time out perfectly for the improvement of my overall rest and recovery?

We were scheduled to leave on Tuesday, but first . . .

. . . we had an AMAZING thunder
and lightning storm to endure in
Camarillo on Monday

This lightning strike signaled the instant end of Jacob's soccer practice Monday night.

On Tuesday, we were up bright and early for our flight to Maui.

The sovereign state of Hawaii is doing everything they can to stop the spread of Covid-19. They discourage non-vaccinated tourists from coming unless they have had a negative test within 72 hours of their flight to paradise.

On the other hand, we only had to just show our vaccine cards and fill out some convoluted forms on-line within 24 hours of departure to make the government happy.

For our troubles, we received . . .

. . . this nice wrist band from Alaska
Airlines who is in cahoots with the
Hawaiian authorities

The wrist band proves that we are 100% in compliance with all of Hawaii's Covid-19 protocols and signals clear sailing to all airport staff in the Kahului Airport.

After a good six-hour flight, it was off to . . .

The Johnson's condo in Kihei

How relaxing . . .

On Wednesday, we headed to the up-country region of Maui to check out a few street markets.

This old church just south of
Makawao was our first stop

I got a great cup of coffee while the
ladies shopped

the front door of the Po'Okela Church

The church's "Victory Over Satan" Bell

buying ceramic trinkets from the natives

We were told that these make
GREAT pets

Dragon Fruit

GO BARCELONA?

We headed into the quaint village of Makawao which we love.

Typical Makawao shop

Glassblowing has become a major
topic in our family

Maybe I should take a class to teach me the basics of this fascinating art form.

It was closed

It was OPEN!

The peanut butter cookie may be
the best I've ever had

I pondered this unique tree top
while sitting on a bench eating
that peanut butter cookie

Made me think of Mary

We continued north to the town of Paia for lunch.

Seared Ahi Tuna salad to die for!

Thought about it but no

We hurried back to Kihei to watch the Dodgers dramatic 3-1 win over the Cardinals in the National League's one-game Wild Card playoff game.

On Thursday, we headed back up-country to have breakfast at our favorite restaurant in Maui.

So GOOD!

We have eaten several times for lunch and dinner but never for breakfast.

We were not disappointed in the least.

The name Henry Baldwin is
a BIG one in these parts

Enough of this romping about, it was . . .

. . . BEACH TIME!

This beach is about 150 meters
from the Johnson's Condo

How handy is that?

We were joined by Teddy the Turtle to
bathe in the warmth of the tropical Sun

After the beach, it was back to the condo to watch the Thursday Night NFL game, the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams at the 2-2 Seattle Seahawks.

Life is GOOD!
