Back At It Again After Battling Shingles

Sat. - Sun., Sept. 25 - Oct. 3, 2021

The battle against the painful scourge of shingles continued for much of the past week.

Bed ridden and addled by pain killing drugs, I missed the grandkids soccer games but Laurie was there taking pictures.

Mary, the ball is BEHIND you!

That's MUCH better

Jacob started his game in goal

In the Second Half, Jacob played
well in the field according to Laurie

Mike arrived late, in uniform,
directly from his 1887 rules baseball
game in Fullerton that morning

Meanwhile, there was news from EuroBall . . .

The Frankfort Galaxy won the
first European League of Football
Championship Game

The inaugural season of the ELF saw eight teams doing battle.

Germany was the home base for six of these clubs that included the Berlin Thunder, Cologne Centurions, Frankfort Galaxy, Hamburg Sea Devils, Leipzig Kings and Stuttgart Surge.

The two non-German teams were Spain's Barcelona Dragons and Polands Wroclaw Panthers.

The great success of the ELF's inaugural campaign has led to expansion to 12 teams in 2022.

Let's take a look at the four new teams.

An American football fest on Halloween

Our friend Paul Sabolic had given me two tickets to the Dodgers game against the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

I felt much better by then, so Mike and I headed to
"Blue Heaven on Earth" for a good evening of baseball.

First stop was the Red Lion Tavern
near Dodger stadium for a
good pre-game meal

The view from Center Field

Dodgers on to victory

The first pitch of what would be
an 8-3 Dodger victory

Padres Shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., did have an amazing moment in the game.

Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 making this the ballpark's 60th season. During that span, only five homer run balls had ever gone completely out of the stadium until this game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Willie Stargell did it twice, first in 1969 and again in 1973. Mike Piazza became the only Dodger to do it in 1997. Then, in 1999, the St. Louis Cardinals Mark McGwire, aided by steroids, joined the party. Finally, the Miami Marlins Giancarlo Stanton belted one out of the park in 2015.

Thursday night's blast by Tatis travelled 467 feet and had an exit velocity of 116.6 mph on basically a line drive!

MAMMOTH!

On Friday night, I joined Mike and Jacob for the Pacific View League opener between the Channel Islands Raiders (1-4) and the Buena Bulldogs (3-2).

I saw this plaque on a bench
in the Buena Stadium

Those are some excellent coaches in the history of Buena athletics.

Buena was in total control of the game, winning 51-7.

We were back to the soccer pitch on Saturday.

Jacob in goal again was READY!

Mary was cheerleading for
Jacob's game

As usual, Jacob was in the field
in the second half

Chasing the ball down

After a good win, Jacob was
now cheerleading for Mary's game

Go Mary . . .

. . . GO!

Mary had a break-away goal where she dribbled the ball over half the field and SCORED!

I was so excited watching it that I forgot to take any pictures.

Mary's Rainbow Butterflies won their game, so we were all happy on Saturday until this happened . . .

. . . the Huskies lost 27-24 as
we dropped to 2-3 on the season
and 1-1 in PAC-12 play

Life goes on and I think I need a road trip.
