Overall, it was calm week in Ventura County.
With the exception of yet another Friday of JV high school football. It would finally be our season home opener!
Moorpark (2-0-1)
at
Newbury Park (2-1)
Here Come the PANTHERS!!!
Hammer and all.
Shane Sipes
He had another great game for us including two excellent Kickoff Returns.
Michael Contreras coaching up
Strong Safety Connor Williams
I guess what Mike said worked
Shane Sipes broke loose
on Punt Returns as well
Jonas Mello RB/P/K/LB
Jonas is a fine all-around player. He had 86 yards rushing, punted very well including a 58 yarder, boomed the ball on kickoffs, and even made four tackles in limited defensive playing time.
Prowling
Kyle Koh blocking
for Shane Sipes
Kyle would make the play of the game in tackling the Moorpark punter before he could get the punt off giving us the ball deep in Musketeer territory trailing 0-7.
Sipes turns the corner
QB Erich Wuesthoff
Cameron Ruggiero blocking
for Jonas Mello
Jonas would score our only TD of the game and kick the PAT to make it 7-7 at the half.
Halftime
Nice Run Through Banner
Student Body Right
Liam Metcalf on the tackle
Mello . . .
. . . and more Mello
TRENCH WARFARE
Still SWARMING late in the game
Nick Glaab's Flying Tackle
Post-Game Talk
Jonas Mello definitely
earned the Game Hammer
Final Score: Newbury Park 7 - Moorpark 7
The Panthers are now 2-1-1 while the Moorpark squad is still undefeated at 2-0-2.
We have our BYE week this week before returning to action on Friday, October 4th at Royal H.S. against the 3-0 Highlanders.

Corsairs
Saturday afternoon I joined Gabriel Maginier from Aix-en-Provence one last time for lunch and some football before he returned to France on Sunday.
After some fine dining at Venice's Baby Blues BBQ, we headed over to Santa Monica to watch these two JC clubs have at it.
Santa Monica in Blue
Not one but TWO Vomitoriums!!!
I love this stadium!
Gabriel surveying the Cheerleaders
Santa Monica DT Selim Baccouche
Selim hails from a city near Paris, France, thus our interest in this particular 1:00 p.m. game.
Selim is a BIG Lad
6'2" - 282 Lbs.
Nice Stance
PURSUIT!!!
Hand-to-Hand Combat
RUN TO THE BALL!!!
I was impressed!
San Bernardino Valley won 42-21.

I was pretty well done for the day but we had to make one last stop before Gabriel headed to the Rose Bowl for the 7:30 p.m. game between UCLA and New Mexico State. Gabriel is full bore into getting as much football into his trip as is humanly possible.
Did I mention that we were able to get him into a #5 ranked Stanford practice on Thursday? He was stoked!!!
UCLA Campus Bookstore
Gabriel just had to buy a slew of Bruins souvenirs for his family before flying home.
I think that he had an absolutely great time both shopping and seeing a ton of football over his last three weeks in California.

Small world indeed.
Are you working on him transferring to Pierce?
