The Italian Football League starts it's 2009 season with a limited schedule this Sunday to help the 2008 IFL Champion Bergamo Lions, the 2008 runner-up Bolzano Giants and the 2008 semi finalist Parma Panthers with their bloated schedule of games this season due to their involvement in two European tournaments that coincide with the IFL schedule.
Bergamo and Bolzano are both competing in the Euro Bowl tournament that invites the two teams that played in the 2008 championship game from each country in Europe that plays American football.
Parma, in the mean time, is competing in another tournament that invites the two teams from each country that lost in their leagues 2008 semi-finals game. Of course, that would include the Catania Elephants but after very careful consideration we decided that at this stage of Elephants' history we would be better served to concentrate 100% on the 2009 IFL season rather than play in several extra non-IFL contests during our IFL campaign.
WEEK #1 GAMES:
Sunday, March 8th
Bolzano Giants (0-0) at Bergamo Lions (0-0)
Parma Panthers (0-0) at Reggio Emilia Hogs (0-0)
WEEK #1 BYES:
Ancona Dolphins (0-0), Bologna Doves (0-0), Bologna Warriors (0-0), Catania Elephants (0-0), Lazio Marines (0-0) and Milan Rhinos (0-0)
A similar two game schedule is on tap for Week #2 on Saturday, March 14 and then we are all underway on the weekend of March 21-22.
In preparation for their season opener at Ancona on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m., the Elephants are practicing three times this weekend. The practices are scheduled at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The public is welcome to attend any of these practices at no cost,. Hope you can make it out, we would love to see you there!
