Another Day of Hope

Tuesday, 24 March, 2020

Day XVI of our National Lockdown . . .

It was also a special day for one of our own Skorpions.

Today was . . .

. . . Giorgio Nardi's Birthday

Giorgio is seated to the left in this photo from his birthday bash last year. He is still spending his Lockdown on the Swiss side of our border working.

To cross said border is possible if you have the time to sit in your car in a queue for about four hours.

News from the Italian Coronavirus front
this morning was promising

For the second straight day
our numbers are dropping!

Let me take a moment to say GRAZIE and THANK YOU to two people that are on the front lines battling this pandemic as nurses daily.

Nicola "Baffo" Ruggiero
Varese Skorpions DL

"Baffo" is here in Varese working in in the trenches at a hospital doing his part in the ravaged Lombardia Region.

Diego Renteria
Former Rio Mesa H.S. Spartan
Current HS/College Football Referee

Diego is serving his community in a hospital in Ventura, California where the Coronavirus infections are starting to flare up.

Again . . .
GRAZIE!
THANK YOU!

I may need to get one of these outfits
for my next trip to the Esselunga

It looks kind of stylish to me.

The slogan of hope during these tough times in Italy is "Tutto Andrá Bene," which translates into English roughly as "Everything is Going to be Alright."

You see hand made signs with these words and a rainbow posted on fences and off of balconies all over the city when driving to the Esselunga supermarket.

But sometimes one has to remember the old and, unfortunately appropriate, adage . . .

. . . NO GOOD DEED GOES
TOTALLY UNPUNISHED!

As for my viewing choices today . . .

A 1945 Classic before lunch

A peanut butter and honey
sandwich for lunch

I had to wonder.

The Bunker is over 400 years old but is this the first PB&H sandwich cut into triangles that has ever been served in it?

It was delicious I must say, now back to the computer for some more old time, black and white films.

A 1943 corker!

No such thing as PC back
in 1936 apparently

This news was interesting

I had contacted FIDAF, our Italian Federation that is in charge of all things American football related, yesterday about their plans for restarting the season.

The response was a bit vague saying basically that they were waiting for direction from two other sports related organizations, the Italian Ministry of Sports and the Italian Olympic Committee.

I would have to think that this decision to postpone the Tokyo Olympics to 2021 would force, at least, the Italian Olympic Committee to make a statement soon that will prod FIDAF into action.

Maybe not . . .

In the evening, Robert Bloomhuff who is the Wide Receiver Coach of the Monza Brianza Hammers, posted a chilling note on FaceBook.

DAMN!

The good feeling that we had with the morning's statistics went south in a hurry.

Sounds like a good idea in
light of these new statistics
