Mary's Cross Country Meet, a Good HS Football Game and Further Proof that the Huskies are NOT Dogs in 2026

Friday, October 9, 2026
We had ourselves a busy sports agenda today. Let's get right into it.

Mary's meet started on a
pleasant afternoon in Camarillo

After the past week of extreme heat, it was nice break in the weather for the runners and spectators alike.

Mary was again running for her
middle school

This 4th Ventura County Cross Country
Middle School  Meet was being run
on a tough course

Mary looking good at the start

Contemplating here future life

Driving for the Finish Line

Looking GOOD!

Almost there

You've got this, Mary!

Mary's finishing kick was
FANTASTIC!

Mary's time today was 21:23.13, her best time of the season.

Of the 94 sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls in the race today, she finished 64th, by far her best finish of the year. Her best finish in her previous two races was 81st.

Versus just other sixth grade girls, Mary crossed the finish line 12th out of 22 girls. Again, this was an improvement, she finished 14th in her grade in both of her previous two races.

WAY TO GO, MARY!

It was Friday, so Michael and I needed to decide on which game to go see for this week's edition of Friday Night Lights.

The only Ventura County team in
this CIF-SS Top 25 was Pacifica at #13

The best game tonight, based on
this local area poll, was
#1 Pacifica at #4 Newbury Park

So, we headed to Newbury Park after Mary's Cross Country meet.

Pacifica H.S. Tritons
5 Wins - 1 Loss, Overall
1 Win - 0 Losses, Marmonte League

at

Newbury Park H.S. Panthers
4 Wins - 2 Loss, Overall
1 Win - 0 Losses, Marmonte League

It was a BEAUTIFUL night for
American football!

Panthers kicking off to start things

The underdog Panthers' Defense
played with PASSION!

The Tritons' Defense was running
to the ball as well

Panthers take to the air

Surprisingly, we were witnessing a low scoring affair.

End of the First Quarter
Pacifica - 3
Newbury Park - 0

Panthers stretching it to the Edge

NP takes to the air

BIG play Tritons

Pacifica QB rolls and . . .

. . . fires across his body, incomplete

Halftime Score
Newbury Park - 7
Pacifica - 6

Upset Alert?

Low pad wins . . .

. . . especially when help arrives

Tritons now airing it out . . .

. . . with regularity

End of the Third Quarter
Newbury Park - 21
Pacifica - 16

Oh my goodness, this Upset Alert is for real!

Pacifica kept slinging it

This Pacifica Field Goal was good

Final Score
Newbury Park (5-2, 2-0 ML) - 21
Pacifica (5-2, 1-1 ML) - 16

I think that passion trumped talent this evening.

Local high school scores tonight

While we were reveling at this high school upset game, the Washington Huskies were playing in Seattle.

Friday night game

Iowa Hawkeyes (4-1, 1-1 Big-10)
at
Washington Huskies (3-2, 0-2 Big-10)

Things did not go well for the UW, trailing 27-3 at halftime.

Fans were stopped by force from
leaving the stadium at Halftime

This was probably "fake news" but appropriate nonetheless.

Cousin Dom and Mike D'Antuono
were at the game

They were the only two people in their section not incarcerated.

Also fake but also appropriate

The Huskies are now 3-3 overall
and at 0-3, DEAD LAST by ourselves
in the 18 team BIG-10 standings tonight

It wasn't as close as the score indicates, the Huskies having scored a meaningless TD on the last play of the game.

On to some upbeat EuroBall news . . .

Italy's DI will open the 2027
season with all ten teams playing
games in the inaugural
Kick Off Classic on February 20-21

The five games, three on Saturday and two on Sunday, will all take place in Milano's venerable Velodromo Vigorelli giving rabid fans the chance to see all ten DI teams play in one venue, on one weekend.

GREAT IDEA!

Now, what great idea can someone come up with to right the Huskies sinking ship before Julien Urgenti from Lyon, France and I head up to Seattle for the Penn State game in November?

Camarillo at Simi Valley Frosh Football Game

Thursday, October 8, 2026

After their bye week, your Camarillo Scorpions Frosh football team was back at it again today, on the road, in Simi Valley.

Due to the excessive heat in Ventura County this week, the Kickoff was pushed back from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Good call.

In the mornings, Laurie and I like to attempt to solve the two crossword puzzles published daily in the Ventura Star-Free Press.

Today's answer to 5 Across . . .

. . . was obvious to me

I really did not see how I could be wrong about this one.

It was finally time to head over to Simi Valley for Jacob's game but not before a proper pre-game meal.

When in Simi Valley, one just MUST
dine at The Hat for one of their
"World Famous Pastrami Dip" sandwiches!

On to what sized up to be a tough game . . .

Uh-oh, the Pioneers running game

Still, the Camarillo eleven kept battling

As always, The Pit was fierce tonight

Nice open field tackle

That hole is WAY too big

Back-to-back Pioneers' drops of

. . . so did this spectacular interception

HUGE tackle for loss by Camarillo

Despite the Pioneers' big plays, the Scorpions were still battling on every down

First Down Camarillo!

Wildcat Formation inside run

#14 reeking havoc again

The combination of Simi Valley big plays on Offense and a season long struggling Camarillo Offense made for a frustrating first three chukkers of play.

End of the Third Quarter
Camarillo - 0
Simi Valley - 27

Stiffen up D-Line

Pioneers' OL surging forward again

Jacob coming off the edge . . .

. . . and trying to chase down a long
interior Simi Valley TD run

Battling and . . .

. . . turning the corner on a two-point play

This looks promising!

Jacob tracking down an outside

. . . and making the tackle!

HANDS UP!

Speed and . . .

. . . persistence are good qualities

I love the fact that no matter the situation, Jacob goes all out on every play when he is on the field.

What more would you want from a player?

Going DEEP on the game's last play

Final Score
Camarillo (2-5) - 0
Simi Valley (7-0) - 33

Up next for the Scorpions is another trip to Simi Valley on Thursday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m., this time to take on the Royal H.S. Highlanders (3-3).

Dare to Win!
