A Day on the Links and a Great Lunch

Tuesday, 3 February, 2015:

About two weeks ago Cobra TE/DE David "Brady" Durán mentioned that we should get together for a round of golf some day soon.

Today was that day as we were joined by Cobra OG Roberto who is David's brother and by Tomás who is David's father-in-law.

We were in store for a fun 18 holes at a par three, pitch and putt golf course in the Murcia suburb of Montepríncipe.

The only drawbacks would be a very strong wind and my sudden, and heretofore unknown, ability to hit the ball really well.

The price was right

at 5 Euros for 18 holes

After a caña or two to celebrate our fun round, we headed to David and Rocio's home for a genuine Murcian lunch.

It was GOOD!!!!!!!

At their beautiful penthouse home, we were joined by Carmina who is Tomás' wife and Rocio's, a.k.a. La Reina, mother.

We had a fun lunch that lasted a long time as we were able to sit, eat, drink and share long talks about all sorts of fun things.

It was another great day in España with some really good people.

These are the types of days that I cherish and remember the most on my trips abroad.

Monday, 2 February, 2015:

HAPPY GROUND HOG DAY!!!

What a game!

And yes, I would have given the ball to Lynch too.

But if you are going to pass the ball, attacking an undrafted, free agent DB who would have to make a play for the ages to stop the TD pass, makes sense too.

Truly a GREAT defensive play to seal the deal for the Pats, 28-24.

Good times indeed!

The game ended a little after 4:00 a.m. Cobra Standard Time Monday morning and I got back to La Hacienda at about 4:45 a.m.

As predicted, the rest of Monday was not productive to say the least except for . . .

. . . our two Cobra practices this evening. As is unfortunately the case too often, the numbers in attendance were not great but those who came gave maximum effort,

As you can see in the cartel above, the Cobras will be hitting the road at midnight Saturday night for the 340 mile bus ride to Zaragoza in northeast Spain.

Kickoff is set for 12:00 noon on Sunday and we will board the bus right after the game for the 340 mile return trip home to Murcia.

What a great chance to see the country on a Sunday!

Flag Football Saturday and a Gorge Yourself Sunday

Saturday, 31 January, 2015:

Up and at 'em for a pair of 11:00 a.m. five-man flag football games on an overcast, windy day with light rain at times.

The Juniors romped over a weak Cehegin team today. With the victory, they claimed the Murcian Junior League 2015 Flag Football Championship.

Sunday, 1 February, 2015:

While it is Super Bowl Sunday in the USA, it is just another day in Europe since the big game doesn't start until 12:30 a.m. Monday.

I met up with them, their son Alberto and former Cobra Jose Sotomayor at the Parilla Argentina for a light lunch.

Unfortunately for all Murcians, this is the last day that this great restaurant will be open in our fine city.

The fun loving owner/chef of the all-the-meat-you-can-eat parilla, Angel, is moving his business north to Valencia.

The silver lining is that I now have another reason to re-visit Valencia.

I'm FULL!!!

Roberto Durán will pick me up at 11:00 p.m. tonight to meet up with several present and past Cobras at an Irish pub not far from La Hacienda to watch the Super Bowl in the wee hours on Monday morning. The game should end around 4:30 a.m. local time.

I look for Monday to be somewhat of a non-productive day.
