Super Bowl LVIII Sunday and Beyond

Sun.-Weds., February 11-14, 2024

America's #1 unofficial National Holiday occurred this past weekend.

Yes, it was indeed . . .

. . . Super Bowl Sunday!

The NFC's #1 seeded San Francisco 49ers (14-5) vs. the AFC's #3 seeded Kansas City Chiefs (14-6) in Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium in the Super Bowl's 58th incarnation..

It brought back memories of watching
the first of Super Bowl on an old TV set
 with my college roommates
Loren Brucker and Terry Newlin

The NFL Champion Green Bay Packers (14-2) defeated the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs (12-3-1), 35-10.

Super Bowl I was played at a
non-packed Los Angeles Coliseum

The official attendance that Sunday was 63,036.

The same L.A. Coliseum that
hosted the 1959 World Series

Note the staggering attendance figures for the three games played at the venerable old arena, Sunday 92,394, Monday 92,650 and Today 92,706.

The National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers would lose Game 5 to the American League Champion Chicago White Sox by the same 1-0 score seen here in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Dodgers would beat the White Sox, 9-3, in Game 6 in Chicago to win their second overall World Series Championship and first in Los Angeles, 4 games to 2 games.

Back to Super Bowl LVIII . . .

Mad magazine taking a shot

Laurie set out another fabulous
spread for us and Michael, Vanessa,
Jacob and Mary

How old is this helmet chip
and dip bowl?

At least 25 years olds I suspect.

These desserts were heavenly

Or so I was led to believe by other revelers.

Football plates and napkins
were a must for our get together

Prop bet competition prizes for
the lucky winner

To spice up our viewing pleasure, we all filled out our answers to a list of 25 questions about the game that included:

#3. The first FG attempt will be by: 49ers or Chiefs

#5. The first turnover will be a: Fumble  Interception

#12. The player to score the game's first TD will be wearing an: EVEN numbered jersey  ODD numbered jersey

#19. Will both teams punt before anyone scores: Yes  No

The correct answers were 49ers, Fumble, Odd (49ers Christian McCaffrey #23), and Yes (actually there were a turnover and three punts before the first score).

Vanessa who wears her lack of football knowledge proudly was, of course, the winner.

Mary was busy drawing while American
football lovers all over the globe were on
the edge of their collective seats

of everyone's answers to the quiz

An interesting overtime game, only
the second one in Super Bowl history

The Chiefs now own four Super Bowl
Championships in 1970 (SB IV), 2020
(SB LIV), 2023 (SB LVII) and
2024 (SB LVIII)

Kansas City has also lost two Super Bowl games in 1967 (SB I) and in 2021 (SB LV).

Only four franchise have won more
Super Bowl games than the Chiefs

This is indeed odd

On Monday, we had a great turnout
at our monthly Rio Mesa H.S. retirees'
breakfast extravaganza

On Tuesday I headed, via Montalvo,
to the Ventura County Government Center

I had been called to Jury Duty

I got to the correct spot without
any problems thankfully

Just before the lunch break, all of us were informed that the courts did not need any new jurors today. We were free to go home, our service obligation had been fulfilled.

Thus I hurried back to Camarillo to pick up Laurie, it was . . .

. . . the BEST day of the week!

We opted to not go to Ruby's today

The El Rey Cantina got the call

Their street tacos were outstanding!

Mary and Jacob on Valentine's Day

Red was THE color on Wednesday

Now for some odds and ends . . .

I found this St. Francis H.S.
Entrance Exam poster in a box
while cleaning out the garage

No, I definitely did not score well enough to win one of those three scholarships.

One of our former Thousand Oaks H.S.
players randomly sent me this photo
from a 1976 football program

I do find it hard to fathom at times

It will be shown on TCM at
5:00 a.m. on Friday

I'm recording it for sure. It is the story of my all-time favorite Los Angeles Ram.

I am in possession of the this team's
Rose Bowl Game Ball thanks to
Michael D'Antuono

Papy Bastiand was going to stop
playing after our 2013 Bron-Villeurbanne
Falcons National Championship season

He never did.

Week #5 of the Spanish Serie A
football will kickoff on Saturday

So will Week #3 of Spain's Serie B schedule

The Egyptian season will start this weekend

I like the Cairo Hellhounds
to take it all this year

They are David Lassen's favorite Egyptian club.

Georgia Tech vs. Florida State
in Dublin, Ireland on August 24th

Hmmm . . .

Equally interesting,
Notre Dame vs. Army at Yankee Stadium

Now, THAT'S a Valentine's Day
tradition that I could really get into!

I agree with the Dad

Reading Is FUNdamental!

A compelling, autobiographical tale
about a Jewish woman's experiences in
Nazi occupied France during World war II

It was a good read, you would like it I'm sure.
