The First Crazy Week of a New and Hopefully Better Year

Fri.-Fri., January 1-8, 2021

We started the New Year as we have for several years now, in Las Vegas at the home of our son Andrew, his wife Jenn and our grandson Kevin.

We may sure to stay inside of our desert bubble leaving their home only once to pick up a couple of delicious dinner drive-through orders from Roberto's Mexican restaurant and In-N-Out.

The rest of our stay we all just vegged out watching every American football game on TV and alternating playing games of Uno, Clue and Sorry.

The two College Football Playoff
games were at the top of our viewing list

Andy and Kevin like Star Wars

Jenn is knowledgable as well in this department.

This is the auxiliary TV room in their home. We used the BIG one in their living room.

It is much closer to the refrigerator.

Bama won the first game easily

So did the Buckeyes
in the nightcap

The Championship Game next
Monday should be a good one

January 2, 1974 this guy was born

Yes, that is none other than our oldest son, now 47 year old Andrew!

With Andrew at the Las Vegas Bowl
a few years ago when spectators
were still allowed at games

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW!

On Sunday we watched the Rams
final regular season game

Then we got some sobering news from Washington . . .

Al Worley
University of Washington
All-American CB
NCAA Record Holder with
14 Interceptions in 1968

Al was a GREAT teammate back in the day.

He was humble and a hard worker who never brought attention to himself.

His NCAA record 14 interceptions in the 1968 season still stands 52 years later even though we only played a ten game schedule that season in an era where teams did not pass all that often.

Today's college players play a 12 game regular season schedule plus a possible conference championship and a bowl game or two if you make it to the CFP championship game. In a normal season, Alabama and Ohio State would be meeting in their 15th game of the year next Monday night and, of course, college football is now all about passing.

Still, Al holds that NCAA record.

Now, why do I bring this up you ask?

Because we all received the sad news
about Al's passing this week
at the age of 74

He'll be missed by all who knew him.

The Rams did win on Sunday
despite having to go with their
back-up QB thanks to their defense

The Rams now go on to the NFL playoffs this
weekend on the road against
the Seattle Seahawks

The two teams split their two regular season games this year.

The Rams won the game in Los Angeles 23-16 on November 15th, while the Seahawks took the rematch in Seattle on December 27th, 20-9.

The night before we drove home
we took a walk in their neighborhood

We had a great time with Kevin

We are so grateful for the fine job that Andrew and Jenn are doing raising this fun loving, crazy grandson of ours.

And I thought that this would be
the craziest thing to happen this week

I was so, so wrong

The happenings at the U.S. Capital
on Wednesday were INSANE!!!

Many have said that this is not America

I'm afraid that after the last four years, it is America.

Who could have ever seen this coming?

Oh, yes, there was this guy

After four years of boot licking, Senator Flip-Flop castigated Trumpian beliefs late Wednesday night in the halls of congress.

Today, Trump backers followed him through an airport I believe it was calling him a traitor.

January 20th can't arrive
soon enough

Unfortunately, Trump's base will still be out there looking for new guidance which I suspect Trump or another power seeker will be happy to provide.
