Friday Night Means But One Thing, High School Football

Friday, October 18, 2024
Another Friday, another high school football game.

But which one?

The Conejo Coast League's matchup between the Rio Mesa Spartans (5-2, 2-0 CCL) at the Thousand Oaks Lancers (5-2, 2-0 CCL) game sounded like a good one, but no.

That one was indeed a good and wild one with Rio Mesa prevailing 54-48 in two overtimes!

Son Michael and I voted to go to a key West Valley League showdown, the Granada Hills Highlanders (2-5, 1-1 WVL) at the El Camino Real Royals (2-5, 1-1 WVL).

This one would be an exciting, nail biting but low scoring one with the Royals edging out the Highlanders 7-6.

By the way, GREAT Defense El Camino Real!

Finally, it was grandson Jacob's turn to vote.

He wanted to go to the
Westlake at Newbury Park game

Jacob won the vote by a one to two margin.

The outcome of this one seemed quite obvious but with Jacob and his Camarillo Stingers Blue mates playing a 10:00 a.m. playoff game at Pacifica H.S. on Saturday, we opted to go to this nearby contest so as to not disrupt his mental preparations.

A big old Harvest Moon rising
over the far End Zone was nice

The Panthers started out fast and furious

Still, Westlake had some
good moments . . .

. . . but just not enough of them

The Panthers were just as dominant
as we thought they would be

We left at Halftime with Newbury Park leading 38-3.

Actually, the most fun that I had at
the game was sitting with long time
friend and fellow coach, Greg Ropes

Tonight's exchanges of philosophy between the two of us surely made the world a better place.

GOOD TIMES!

FINAL SCORE
Newbury Park (8-0, 3-0 CCL) - 48
Westlake (0-8, 0-3 CCL) - 3

Saturday is going to be a
BEAUTIFUL day for college football!

In today's two MLB playoff games . . .

The New York Yankees now have
a commanding 3-1 lead in the ALCS

A New York win over the Guardians in Cleveland on Saturday would propel the Yankees to their 41st all-time World Series. They have won a record 27 World Series titles over since winning their first one in 1921.

As for Cleveland, their hopes are still alive to reach the franchise's seventh World Series all-time having won twice in 1920 and 1948 when they were still known as the Cleveland Indians.

NUTS!

The New York Mets hammered the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game Five of the NLCS to make it 3-2 in games for the Dodgers. Game Six will be in Chavez Ravine on Sunday.

With one more win, the Dodgers would reach their 22nd World Series having won the Fall Classic seven times since winning their first one in 1955 as the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Mets will need to win both games scheduled in Los Angeles to win the NLCS and reach their sixth World Series. The Mets own two World Series titles including their first in 1969 as the "Miracle Mets."

Baseball Trivia for the
D'Antuono and Sabolić households

NOTE: I don't like it but the team logo above each pitcher's likeness is the team that they were with when they won their 300th game.

I really hope that Laurie agrees
