How to Keep Yourself Occupied During a Pandemic

Monday, 16 March, 2020

So what does one do during a pandemic in Europe?

Well, one does have to eat . . .

The mint chocolate chip gelato
that I opened last night would
be outstanding yet again today!

I'm becoming a better cook by the hour, thus, not be able to go out for a meal every now and then is no problem.

Yet.

Of course, the internet is a constant, necessary companion during my Lockdown in The Bunker.

Getting up to the minute, non-Fox news, finding all sorts of entertainment and communicating via FaceTime and Skype are all a great comfort to my new, monastic life as a hermit.

Some of the news was not good

Poland just announced that they are joining Switzerland's lead and are becoming the second European nation to cancel, not postpone, their 2020 American football season.

The dominoes are lined up and are starting to tumble I'm afraid. Coaching friends in France and Spain think that their two federations are close to doing the same.

Still no new word on our season here in Italy. Currently, all is on hold until the government's next Coronavirus countermeasures announcement on April 3rd.

Our next scheduled game is on 25 April against the Modena Vipers on the road.

Maybe.

This list, on someone's FaceBook
post yesterday, gave me some good
ideas about future Bunker activities

I mentioned the internet as a source of entertainment.

Today I enjoyed listening to lots of classic 60s and 70s music, nostalgia time in The Bunker.

A good Charlie Chan movie
in the afternoon was a treat . . .

. . . as were two episodes on TV
of the Padre Brown, as they
are called in Italy, series

Laurie and I with Mike Wood and
Robert Bloomhuff at last year's
Italian DI National Championship game

Both Americans, Mike is the Head Coach of the Milano Seamen who won the DI championship later that evening. Robert is the Receivers Coach of the Monza Brianza Hammers.

I had a nice chat last night with Mike about all that is going on in Italy and with our seasons. I mentioned that I really miss my brioche in the morning at our local café or pasticceria. His answer was like a bolt of lightning.

His local bakery still served them.

Tuesday morning I'm headed straight to our nearby Panificio Ducale to see if they too are selling brioches as well was their usual, delicious breads.

Life could be getting much better soon.

The second 2020 episode on TV
of the Inspector Montalbano series
was a good way to end the evening

Finally . . .

I heard that the Big Orange
gave himself a "10" on his Coronavirus
response to date in his speech yesterday

For once, I wholeheartedly agree with him.

On a scale of 100.

Another entertainment option someone just mentioned to me: You can find a ton of old-time radio shows for free downloads at the Internet Archive:

https://archive.org/details/oldtimeradio

I'm partial to Dragnet, Gunsmoke, and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar.

David,

I've used that site often and also enjoy Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar as well as Tales of the Texas Rangers and The Six Shooter.

A fun site to be sure.
