A Quiet Monday in the Bunker Was the Call But Things Still Happened Around Me

Monday, 9 March, 2020

The first news of the morning came via FaceBook from Los Angeles, California of all places.

It seems that our Los Angeles Rams have themselves a new logo for the 2020 season.

I do NOT like it at all

I have never been crazy about
this one either that the Rams
brought with them from their
days playing in St. Louis

I'm a traditionalist, I still love
the 1950s-60s logo that I grew up
with as a young Rams fan

My only trip out of the Bunker/Villa Skorpion II today was the short walk across the street to the Bar al Semaforo to have my usual cappuccino and brioche while I perused the newspaper in the morning.

AC Milan lost at home 2-1 to
17th PLACE Genoa yesterday

The only silver lining for Milan fans was that they were not allowed in the stadium to see this "effort" take place up close and personal.

For goodness sakes, look at today's Serie A standings after this past weekend's contests . . .

. . . Genoa is in danger of
relegation to Serie B in 2021

The Bar al Semaforo is 100% following
these posted Coronavirus countermeasures

About midday, FaceBook erupted again with local news of interest.

This from the Federation

Before this latest announcement, American football was shutdown from practicing or playing games until the Federation reviewed the situation next Sunday, March 15th.

Now we were officially notified that we are shutdown until at least Friday, April 3rd.

This announcement thus postponed our fourth game of the season scheduled for March 21 at home against the Modena Vipers.

The Vipers game was actually already a rescheduling of what should have been our season opener back on February 29th.

Our next scheduled contest is set to kickoff on Saturday, April 4 on the road against the Monza Brianza Hammers, the day after FIDAF's current shutdown ends. I am guessing that we won't play that weekend either.

If I'm correct, then the first half of the 2020 season that included our games against the Modena Vipers (twice postponed), Savona Pirates, Reggio-Emilia Hogs and Monza Brianza Hammers have all been rescheduled.

Maybe.

We are running out of weeks to play an eight game schedule.

Our next scheduled game idd tentatively set for Saturday, April 25th in Modena against the Vipers. If that is indeed our first week back on the field for a game, we would only have seven weekends to get in eight games before the start of the playoffs.

Somethings got to give.

I'm guessing that instead of an eight game, home-and-hone series with each of our four league rivals, the season will be shortened to just a four game regular season where we would play each of our league opponents just once before the start of the playoffs.

Or they might just cancel the season depending on how things intensify.

We'll see . . .

 Via Facebook, British Airways
sent me this . . .

. . . and then I got this
Facebook notification

Just a laugh a minute here today!

I'm still not sure if any of the three Milano area airports are even open given the lockdown.

This update from one of my favorite
pizzerias about 25 minutes from the
Bunker/Villa Skorpion II

The owners of this excellent establishment are the parents of our dominant Skorpions DE Davide Vuolo.

Desperate times require desperate measures.

On the bright side . . .

. . . the Inspector Montalbano
2020 TV season starts tonight
at 21:20!

I have read 24 of recently deceased author Andrea Camilleri's great books about his fictional policeman who is based in beautiful, crazy Sicily. Every one of these stories has been both a fun read and an insight into the psyche of life on Italy's largest island.

The TV series based on these books is entering its 14th season and has 37 action packed episodes to date.

Fortunately for me, the first 27 of these episodes have been available to me, with English subtitles, at the Camarillo Public Library.

No subtitles tonight I'm sure, so my Italian language skills will be sorely tested.

So, how did today's hunkered down mode in the bunker rate if symbolized like local shutters . . .

. . . about like this one,
workable but showing signs
of wear and tear

What will Tuesday bring . . .
