Stanford at Washington . . . College GAME DAY!

Saturday, November 3, 2018

While it was indeed Game Day in Seattle, the Huskies did not kickoff until 6:00 p.m., thus I had plenty of time for another early morning walk.

This time my workout would
take me through the UW's BEAUTIFUL
campus and on into the U District

Approaching the Montlake Bridge

From the Montlake Bridge looking
down the Montlake Cut towards
Portage Bay

A big W!

But not THE big W from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" movie fame.

Husky Stadium aglow
on a Game Day dawn

Drumheller Fountain
aka, Frosh Pond

One of the UW's many
gorgeous buildings

Henry Suzzalo Library

The Broken Obelisk

Commies on Campus!

The Quad

Miller Hall in the distance

Laurie worked there in the 1960s when it was the home of the Department of Education.

I wonder how long those bricks have been there?

American tackle football for
women, how progressive!

I was now headed towards the U District.

apartment that I shared with

Garlic

Delicious Bread

Danger levels were . . .

. . . EXTREMELY HIGH!

Lots . . .

. . . and lots . . .

. . . and lots . . .

. . . of interesting funghi
were for sale this morning

Gourds of some kind

Pumpkins and ???

I've yet to meet a pizza maker
in Italy with a great mustache
like this one

I'll keep searching when I get back to Milano in January to be sure.

Hey, the old apartment
building is still there!

They filled in the pool, sad since
this was the birthplace of the Olympic
sport of water Jai Alai

Our apartment was the one on the back of the top floor, in the right corner.

It was time to turn around and retrace my steps back to the Johnson home.

Good for your eyes I hear

Good for your mental health I hear

I just liked the address

Disturbing Store

Disturbing Art

A novelty once but
just commonplace today

Great old movie house still alive
and kicking in the heart of
the U District

Love this shop, hope it continues
to survive

 Colorful businesses/apartments

"Mighty are the men who wear . . .

. . . the purple and the gold . . ."

The women too!

Another view of the Quad as
the Sun continues to rise

By the Hub or Student Union

I think it looks more like a Collie than a Husky.

What do you think?

Another reminder of our fast
approaching return to Italy

Ivy covered walls just make this
campus more special

EIGHT hours before kickoff

Back near the Montlake Cut

 Wild Mushrooms

They look . . .

. . . DANGEROUS to me!

This sports car has been parked here
fort some time methinks

 More fallout from today's
political climate

REALLY good donuts!

I was strong as we were shopping for a few more necessary items for the fabulous tailgate that the Johnsons host before every Husky home football game.

Their home is only an easy seven minute walk to Husky Stadium.

With Jon Kadletz at the tailgate party

With members of the Kadletz and
Claridge families at the Johnson tailgate

Finally, it was GAME TIME!

The Stanford Indians

Oops, probably no longer politically correct, make that . . .

 The Stanford Cardinal (5-3)

at

The Washington Huskies (6-3)

It was a BEAUTIFUL cold and patriotic
night for American football!

 HERE COME THE HUSKIES!

 Let the game begin!

Laurie and Susie were comfy!

Myles Gaskin had a great night
rushing for 148 yards and a TD

The Huskies dominated the First Half
and survived Stanford's furious
comeback in the game's final two
stanzas to improve to 7-3

If the Dawgs of War can beat Oregon State (2-8) and Washington State (9-1) in their last two games, they would win the PAC-12 North title which would send them to the PAC-12 Championship Game at the San Francisco 49ers Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

A win there would send the Huskies to the 2019 Rose Bowl, the UW's first appearance in the Pasadena Classic since 2001.

GO DAWGS!
