A Scorpions Soccer Practice and an American Football Fix

Wed. & Thurs., Sept. 8 & 9, 2021

Sports, what else, took up most of the last two days.

Our Wednesday was highlighted by Jacob's Scorpions team soccer/fútbol/calcio practice.

Jacob dribbling against
his Coach's defense

Jacob really likes playing Goalie

Bending his knees as a teammate
approaches with goal scoring in mind

He kept the ball out of the goal his entire time in goal tonight.

After practice we both joined Laurie and the rest of Jacob's family for his school's fund raiser at Sharkey's Woodfried Mexican Grill.

YUM!

Laurie and I trekked to Oxnard H.S. Thursday afternoon to watch the Camarillo Scorpions (0-2-1) play the Oxnard Yellowjackets (record unknown) in a Frosh football game.

The grandson of one of our oldest and dearest friends plays for Camarillo.

The Scorpions were shutout in their first two games against Buena and San Marcos but made a strong showing last week in coming from way behind to tie Saugus on the road, 40-40.

What would today bring?

Camarillo in White

By the way, number 53 in the cardinal jersey for Oxnard playing Right Tackle is a female. She played on the Defensive Line as well.

Pressuring the Yellowjacket QB

Scorpions trying to get to the edge

It was hard to do as Oxnard had excellent speed on their defense.

Scorpion Dying Cockroach/Pancake block

Not enough of these today for Camarillo.

This ball was up for grabs . . .

. . . but the game wasn't.

Oxnard steadily and methodically marched their way to a convincing 36-0 win.

With Diego Renteria

Diego played high school football for us at Rio Mesa H.S. back in the day. Since then he has become one of the hardest working officials in the Ventura County area.

About six years ago we randomly met at a game where I was working as the color analyst on one of the Ventura County Star's Game of the Week broadcasts and he was refereeing.

I wanted to take a photo of us together for this blog at that time and every year since then we've taken a new photo each time we've randomly met again at a game.

Thursday the Camarillo-Oxnard Frosh game was that random meeting for 2021.

Only two days to go to see
how the Huskies bounce back
from the loss to Montana

We had planned to go to Michigan with friends but the resurgence of Covid, the expected 107,000 fans jam packed into Michigan's "BIG HOUSE" and the Michigan's somewhat lax rules regarding face masks was cause for further discussion last Friday.

We all agreed, wisely I believe, to cancel the trip and watch the game on TV.

GO HUSKIES!
