It's Been a While . . .

Mon. - Sat., July 26 - Aug. 14, 2021

Apologies to the faithful few followers of this blog for my lack of recent postings. Simply put, I've been disconnected from much of the net these past two weeks to cleanse my mind.

Anyway, here is what has been going on in my world . . .

DEEEElicious!

I found this Sicilian soft drink on sale at the new Freda's Pizzeria in Camarillo.

The pizza was darn good too!

We watched a ton of the
Tokyo Olympics

Son Michael sporting an official shirt worn by friend Mark Johnson when he acted as a U.S. Wrestling Federation liaison during the . . .

. . . 1984 Los Angeles Olympics

Speaking of Michael, he was back out in the arena again.

Who is playing?

Mike's again part of a team playing in
this 1886 rules base ball league

It would not be referred to as baseball until years later.

So who was playing?

This strong new club from Temecula
was traveling to play . . .

. . . Our beloved Wharf Rats

Back in the day, the Dear Brothers owned a dairy in Temecula that sponsored a local base ball team.

"The Sir" or umpire rules on the
seven inning game by himself

Max, the Wharf Rats new
pitching ace

Batter Up!

That hit led to the Wharf Rats . . .

. . . first and only run of the game

Max at bat

Overall, Max is a serious upgrade to the Wharf Rats roster.

He once was a punt returner for Syracuse University.

Lots of old school action

Race to the bag

Fouled this one off

Nice looking stride

The Wharf Rats were in a battle
trailing only 4-1 after four innings
before losing 19-1

As usual, the fans had a lot of fun despite the score.

We were a bit disappointed when Mike pulled a hamstring playing centerfield in the third inning bringing his day to an end.

Traditional breakfast in
Victorville on our way to Las Vegas

Why Las Vegas again, you ask?

It was our grandson Kevin's . . .

. . . TENTH birthday!

We also stopped in Baker
for some refreshments

Baker loves its alien connections

Maybe they are real?

Alien Biden next to really
Alien Trump

If it's your Tenth Birthday,
a good sized cake is a must!

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
showed up to seranade Kevin

Now, how did that icing
get on his nose?

PRESENTS!

A boy and his proud Grandpa

Being with Jenn, Andy and Jenn for three days was great but Vegas was SCORCHING!

St. Francis H.S. had helmets
to donate to our EuroBall cause

My alma mater came through!

Six S.F. Schutt helmets heading soon
to the Guadalajara Stings in Spain

Although Mary wanted one for
her budding American football career

First day of soccer practice
for Mary

She'll have to settle for the round ball a bit longer.

Last Monday was Kevin's first
day of the Fourth Grade

We are all keeping a watchful eye on the Coronavirus and this back to school situation for all three of our grandkids.

Monday was the first day in
pads for the Rio Mesa H.S. Freshmen

The RMHS Varsity Spartans were
hard at work too

Rio Mesa Offensive Linemen
in the chutes

Jacob opted to take me to the
SeaBees Museum in Oxnard

Fortunately, he was able to
shoot down several airplanes
that were attacking the museum

Heavy equipment driver too

Jacob loves these miniatures

If he only had a Tommy Gun . . .

STOP!!!

With Jacob and his dog David
on a fun sleepover

For the first time ever, Jacob flipped
me the first pancake at breakfast
the next morning!

Nice toss!

The first week of school may
have been too much for Kevin . . .

Friday night was a good night for
Mike and I to attend a scrimmage

We joined Joanne and Paul Sabolic for a great meal first at Maria's Italian Kitchen and then their son Jason's scrimmage at Oak Park H.S.

Jason is the Head Coach of the El Camino Real H.S. Royals.

The Royals still have a lot of work ahead of them but they looked much more competitive than they did in their recently completed Spring season.

A sign that The Apocalypse
is upon us?

Finally . . .

Don't ask me why, but suddenly I
have a real desire to learn the art
of glass blowing

If you have any leads on where I can find a class to introduce me to this ancient artistry, let me know.
