At last, it was time for the first of our two scrimmages to start our pre-season.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day for
American football!
Zippo
On the way to Skorpion Field, I stopped off for a café at a bar in Venegono Superiore. The young man who served me, Zippo, is a friend of many of the Skorpions as it turns out.
He was a nice young man but I'm really hoping that Zippo is just another goofy Italian nickname.

Our opponents today were
the Mastini from Verona
They were a DII playoff semi-finalist team last year finishing with a 9-2 record, so we knew that it was going to be a stern test.

To sum up the scrimmage, we did some good things and we did some not so good things.
Offensively we need to be much more consistent in our running game. Our passing attack had its moments.
Defensively we simply need to improve our tackling. I have not broken down the film yet but the number of missed tackles will be appalling!
Scrimmages should be learning experiences and I think that we truly opened a lot of eyes today as to what needs to get better in a hurry.
We will travel to nearby Switzerland on Wednesday night for our final scrimmage, this time against the Lugano Rebels.
Hopefully we will all play much better as our season opener is now just two weekends away.
