Our Last Full, Sunny Day in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii

Tuesday, March 12, 2024
All things, both good and bad, must eventually come to an end.

Today was our last full day on Maui before flying home tomorrow afternoon and we made the most of it.

We started the morning with a long stroll to Starbucks to meet up once again with a great group of retirees/snowbirds that the Johnsons have befriended over the past few years.

On the way, we discovered what
Debi "Tutu" Murphy is doing in her
newfound retirement years

We kept walking to Starbucks but
I was definitely interested

. . . at your own risk

A knockoff of a Canadian favorite
in South Maui Gardens

I loved the hockey stick turned flag pole.

Strong Asian influences on Maui

An old Nash Rambler is a Maui
influencer as well

This shop is famous for their . . .

. . . Malasadas

This one that I ordered was injected with a delicious, purple ube cream filling.

YUM!

Across from the Sugar Beach Bake Shop

Someday I have got to try this fun sport of outrigger canoeing.

Just not today.

This was our next stop

We were here shopping for Humpback
whale related souvenirs

Laurie loved these glass decorations
in the Aquarium's lobby

One has to wonder if these were original pieces from the Joanne Sabolić collection.

We were told that stepping on
one of these in the Maui surf was
a really bad idea

We were given the same warning
about these frogs indigenous to Maui

After buying a few much needed Humpback whale souvenirs, we all remembered at once . . .

. . . IT'S TACO TUESDAY!

Lunch at the South Maui Fish Company
for Ahi tacos was the right call

A couple of rough looking customers
rode in on these before ordering
their round of Ahi tacos

The weather was easily the best we had had in the nine days we've been in Maui.

Only one thing to do . . .

. . . HIT THE BEACH!

Glorious, simply GLORIOUS!

Laurie and Susie segued from
this idyllic beach scene to . . .

. . . there normal goofy selves later
during our last Maui dinner

It was still Tuesday, so we opted
to eat more tacos for dinner

Fred's Mexican Cafe and Cantina got the call

We were not alone in trying to score more tacos during Fred's Happy Hour featuring friendly cut rate prices.

Our Mary loves mermaids

This one was spotted near Fred's during our 30 minute wait to be seated.

Finally they called us to a
nice, quiet table

I love Fred's no smoking sign

My cheeseburger taco was good,
my calamari taco was even better

Words to live by, we at least tried
to Party Mexican tonight

One last ecological reminder
before tonight's . . .

. . . most recent, incredible . . .

. . . Sunset

This was really a good day for all of us.

Meanwhile, back in Camarillo . . .

Jacob had his first Las Colinas
Middle School soccer game today

This is the school's 6th-7th-8th Grade team.

As a 6th Grader who had not played soccer in two years, he was happy to have made the team as an alternate/practice team player.

White jersey with his traditional
headband, he got playing time

Unfortunately, the Mustangs lost their opener, 1-0, to Ventura's De Anza Middle School.

The whole family was excited for Jacob's efforts on the pitch today.

In American football news from around the globe . . .

Tournament in Cancun, Mexico in August

This four day extravaganza will have Men's 11x11 tackle, Women's 9x9 tackle and mixed 5x5 flag football divisions.

Teams from Mexico and Morocco are already in. Any one want to join them?

The Cairo Hell Hounds, David Lassen's
favorite Egyptian team, had a rough
2-2 season finishing in third place

Coach Jesus Sanchez's 3-2 Mallorca Voltors
travel to play the 3-3 L'Hospitalet Pioners
in a key Spanish Serie A game on Saturday

I usually take their
Thin Mints intravenously

I got in a good day's worth of exercise
today to make up for those three tacos

Reading Is FUNdamental!

An interesting read to be sure
when one is lounging at the shore

Going back and forth between a 1920s and today, the stories of a neurodivergent Black woman who is a genius music composer, that gets taken in, controlled and robbed of her music by a crooked white musician. A hundred years later, our heroes attempt to correct the indignity and artistic thievery when new, long lost clues start appearing.

Loved it!

Aloha!
