Pestilence Hits Maui and a Beach Day

Monday, March 11, 2024

Our host, Mark Johnson, has not been feeling well the last few days. Things got worse yesterday, so this morning I drove him to the local Urgent Care facility to have a doctor take a good look at him.

The physician on staff quickly determined that he needed to check into the local hospital's Emergency Room for more in-depth testing.

Susie drove Mark to the hospital leaving Laurie and I to fend for ourselves for the rest of the morning and early afternoon.

When it was all said and done, he was suffering from an extreme bout of the flu and was given the proper medications to get himself back into the peak of physical fitness.

Thank goodness.

Black Rock Pizza looked like
an interesting breakfast option . . .

. . . so we entered

The breakfast menu was to our liking

My ube waffles with Portuguese
sausage definitely hit the spot

Energized, we walked back to the condo along the beach.

The surf was extremely calm

I wonder where they got all
of these lava rocks?

South Shore Maui is not
known for its wild surf

Even though it is overcast, I think
that we'll hit the beach today . . .

. . . at about 2:00 p.m., with Mark
back home safe and sound, we did

No, we did not make this sand art.

The Pacific Ocean was still calm

Someone released the Kraken

In the evening, we met another couple,
Paula and Ron, who are Canadian
friends of the Johnsons

Nice people, we met them at the Maui Coast Hotel where we shared pupus, Hawaiian themed appetizers, and listened to the blue grass duo seen here.

Traditional Hawaiian music was nowhere to be heard.

One more full day in paradise . . .
