The Final Day of the 2019 Women's Italian National Championship Flag Football Tournament

Sunday, 30 June, 2019

The final day of the 2019 Women's Italian National Championship Flag Football Tournament would be contested in just as hot weather as yesterday's three Pool Play games.

On the plus side, all teams played only two games today.

On the negative side, all the players were still recovering from Saturday's scorching conditions.

As for our disappointed squad of Skorpions who entered as the Tournament's #3 seed only to lose all three games yesterday, it was a day to re-group and show our true character as a team.

Nency, Fabio and Robby
were ready on Sunday!

Unfortunately, none of them had any eligibility left.

Our poor, 0-3 showing yesterday placed us in today's Consolation Bracket as Pool B's #4 team.

We would face Pool A's #3 team, the Busto Arsizio Tempeste.

Arianna had a great game as our
designated Blitzer

Arianna applied pressure on the
QB play after play

Arianna earned a High Ten
from Coach Dario for her efforts

QB Sofia was having some real
trouble today dealing with the heat

Agnese reaching for a pass

Here comes Arianna again . . .

. . . will she get the QB sack?

INDEED SHE DID!

Marta was playing well at WR

Three Defensive Assassins
Laura, Arianna and Tex

Margherita flying in to help out

Arianna again harassing
the Tempeste QB

a hair raising play

. . . a howling 25-20 win
over the Tempeste

Our first win of the Tournament put us into the Fifth/Sixth Place game against Pool B's #3 team, the Palermo Mustangs who beat us yesterday 39-15 in Pool Play.

We had a change at QB

QB Sofia's problems with the intense heat continued and the doctor on hand said to keep her out of the game.

Thus WR Marta took over the reins and, all things considered, did a great job at her new position.

Laura about to catch Marta's
first pass

Marta looked comfortable at QB
and the team rallied around her

Tex with another solid catch

Defense swarming to the ball

Agnese always comes up with
key receptions when the team
needs them most

We lost to the Mustangs by a final score of 26-6 to come in Sixth Place on the weekend but we all felt better at the level of effort that our young squad gave in both games today.

One Final Team Photo
at the end of the day

In the first year that the Skorpions fielded a Women's Flag Football team we not only were the regular season Group A Champions but also earned a #3 seed coming into the Tournament.

We also had wins this year over the Trieste Ranzide who lost the Championship game today to the Parma Panthers and against today's Third Place team the Grosetto Cudare.

It was a fine first year as this
tape highlights clearly

After the final Skorpion game of the day Laurie and I drove north about two and a half hours to the sleepy Campania village of Sala Consilina.

The view from our hotel

On Monday, we will drive another 90 minutes to the north to spend another few days in chaotic, lively Napoli before returning to Varese.

We're having a good time in southern Italia to be sure!
