Spreading the Word, a Superserien Game and a Fun Dinner

Saturday, 3 June, 2017:

This would be another day mostly devoted to our shared love of the great game of American football.

Saturday would start with an event close to home in the morning.

An event for the people living in
our series of housing complexes

The event included a garage sale, food, entertainment and booths set up giving out all sorts of information to the local residents.

Our own ever promoting Aiki Parts seized the opportunity to set up a booth aimed to spread the word to children and parents alike about the wonders of the Wäsby Warriors American football team.

Jesper Douhan helping our
day's first recruit, Vidar, on
with a helmet

As it turned out, Vidar was a natural
throwing accurate passes with
amazing consistency

Others joined in trying to throw
footballs through one of three
hula hoops hanging
from a soccer goal

Vidar was still the best prospect of the day.

The Warriors signed him to a five year, $7,000,000 USD contract that included a $2,000,000 USD signing bonus.

Our moderately successful recruiting efforts finished, Aiki, Laurie and I made the journey into Stockholm for . . .

A Superserien American football game

On our way to the game we got to see . . .

. . . part of the Stockholm Marathon
up close and personal

Stockholm Mean Machines

Let's set the stage for the game featuring two of the clubs in Sweden's toughest American football circuit, the six team Superserien . . .

 The Limhamn Griffins
Fifth Place in Superserien
1 Win - 5 Losses
16 Points Scored
226 Points Allowed

at

The Stockholm Mean Machines
Third Place in Superserien
3 Wins - 3 Losses
132 Points Scored
160 Points Allowed

When these two clubs met two weeks ago in Malmö, the Mean Machines prevailed 35-0.

Surprisingly, the Griifins scored
first on their first possession
with a long TD pass

 This awakened the Stockholm Eleven
who got serious on the way to a
34-7 halftime advantage

Everybody for the Mean Machines,
GO DEEP!

 The Griffins would score again
on their first possession of the
second half

It would not be nearly enough as the Mean Machines led 48-14 at the end of three periods.

At this point, we admitted to being both hungry and and a bit bored by the flogging we were watching.

We agreed that it was time for a change of venue, dinner it was!

We found out later that we didn't miss anything as no one scored in the fourth quarter.

nearby Das Rost restaurant

Das Rost was listed in my guidebook about the 111 must see sights in Stockholm. I had a beer there last week before attending a Stockholm Mean Machines practice and liked both the beverage and the funky restaurant.

the Das Rost ambience

It included live music on a
Saturday night

The chèvre pizza was GOOD!

Part of Das Rost's philosophy as a restaurant is to get people who don't know each other and live divergent life styles to sit together and discuss life in general.

It worked for us.

 Magnus and Michaela

We shared a table with this couple who were out on their first date.

They were interesting indeed!

They also suggested that we try Das Rost's nutella dessert pizza.

WE DID!

Of course we shared a few slices with our new friends.

We all had a great time at this hidden gem of a restaurant located on a quiet Stockholm side street on the island of Södermalm.

It was a full day and it was time to head back to Upplands-Väsby but not before getting one more travel safety tip in Stockholm Centralen metro station . . .

It is STRICTLY forbidden to
jump in front of a metro train!

I never knew that.
