Rams Season Ends and a Good Work Day on HUDL

Monday, January 20, 2025

The first thing that I wanted to know when I woke up today was . . .

. . . did the Rams win?

NUTS!

A solid season nonetheless, WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR!

They could have run this play in
Koreen FitzGerald's shoe closet

Let the Conference Championship Games begin!

National Conference Championship

Washington Commanders (14-5)
at
Philadelphia Eagles (16-3)

American Conference Championship

Buffalo Bills (15-4)
at
Kansas City Chiefs (16-2)

The NFL's Super Bowl LIX
is not far away now

The College Playoff Championship
Game is tonight

I like this old school game poster

The Fighting Irish vs. the Buckeyes
in Atlanta

Ohio State (13-2) has playoff wins
over Tennessee (10-3), Oregon (13-1)
and Texas (13-3)

Notre Dame (14-1) has beaten
Indiana (11-2), Georgia (11-3) and
Penn State (13-3) in their playoff run

Although not a big fan of either
team, I'll root for Notre Dame in
deference to our Fighting Irish
friend, Debi Murphy

Puts the difficulty of winning a
National Championship in perspective

Much of today was spent going over
game video of next Saturday's opponent.
the Las Rozas Black Demons (2-0)

Our Mariners (0-1) will ride on a bus for about five hours each way to Madrid for the contest against the two-time defending Spanish Serie A Champions.

These are our Gijón Mariners sponsors for
2025 in case you had trouble reading
any of their ads on our uniforms last week

As promised, here are some of Mariners Team Photographer Felipe's great photos from yesterday's two flag football games.

Big Play by a Mariner Junior Samu

The Ballet in the Secondary

Hugo pressuring the Oviedo QB

Great Hops!

Samu on a Gijón Jet Sweep

Calde with a solid catch for the Seniors

That ball sure does draw a crowd!

Jorge with a fine diving grab!

Proposing or pulling flag?

Talk about High pointing the ball!

Calde about to split the Oviedo defenders

Excellent flag pulling technique

What's his vertical jump?

The Seniors ran the Jet Sweep well

Nice catch for a Phoenix TD

Tremendous pass rush and pass
deflection by Jorge Unzuela

Speed on the turf

Blitz Coming!

This was an EXCELLENT TD catch

Before starting to breakdown the Las Rozas video, I opted for a short morning constitutional in an unexplored direction to the West of the apartment.

In front of our flat on Playa de Poniente

Meet you on Playa de Poniente
by stairway #6

Shower anyone?

Looking back at Gijón's Old Town

Looks like there are still a lot of
functioning naval shipyards in Gijón

This jetty really calms the waters
lapping on Playa de Poniente

That's our apartment building
on the far left

Big, old rocks form the jetty

The waves on Playa de Poniente
are barely a ripple

Gijón's Aquarium

I need to visit it soon in order to file a report with our grandson Jacob who is a budding Marine Biologist.

The Gijón Aquarium's
Restaurante Kraken

I wonder if the aquarium has an actual kraken on display?

The Aquarium and its Bioparc
are quite large

I continued walking West into a tad grittier part of town.

I wonder, what have these four round
windows seen over the many years?

I stopped for breakfast at the
Cafe La Polar

They served me by far the largest slice of Tortilla de Patata that I have consumed so far in Gijón. It was delicious too.

As stated before Gijón has a rich
naval tradition and the area that I
was exploring used to be full of
ship building enterprises

Simple but pleasing mural

Another building, another crest

An anonymous muse on a
random school building

You know,
"Sherwin Williams Paints Cover the Earth"

A really old wall . . .

. . . with this metal rod inserted
into its core

If you have any antique furniture,
this shop can restore it for you

Interesting color combination

My father, Jorge, was born in
Camagüey, Cuba

The Tequila baron has a day job?

This Gijón fixer-upper is yours
for a song

Pleasant looking apartment complex

A single story home amid lots
of multi-story buildings

When does the Pow-Wow commence?

An old, abandoned factory

Iglesia San Esteban del Mar

It was closed at this hour.

When I went to the store this afternoon, I remembered lots of hub-bub about the cost of eggs in the USA and how President Trump would bring those prices down quickly now that he was inaugurated today.

The cost of a carton of ten eggs in
Gijón today was 2.27€ which is about
$2.36 USD

I wonder how that compares to the cost of ten eggs at your local Ralph's or Von's?

NOT IN SPAIN!

I'll easily be clean and sober for another year!

Call me Rocky . . .
