A Sunday in España

Sunday, January 12, 2025
I woke up to a bright, crisp sunny day, perfect for a morning stroll through a Spanish Costs Verde city just like Gijón.

Let's see what we came upon during today's adventure.

Of course there is a Native American
themed pub in Gijón

A Celtic one too

The harbor was quiet

Reflections

Old crest on the Palacio Revillagigedo

This palacio was built in 1704 as the residence of the First Marquis of San Esteban del Mar.

The Ode to Sidra glistening
in the early morning Sun

The Capilla de San Juan Batista
erected in 1699

Same Capilla, different side

A college for attorneys

Interesting mirror

I was headed up to the oldest part of the city known as the Cimavilla.

It was a colorful walk

I have always liked this bright
colored goop that Europeans slop
onto walls of remaining buildings
when another adjoining one is razed

Sharp looking homestead

The local Red Cross Headquarters

The rugged Costa Verde

Gull on a natural perch

The Bay of Bicay was calm this morning

The top of the Cimavilla hill was a
good spot for cannons at one time

Part of that old artillery battery

Old walls for sure

Elogio del Horizonte

This 1990 creation by artist Eduardo Chillida represents the horizon putting its arms around this oldest and founding part of the city.

Just a beautiful day to be alive

More colorful buildings

Back to the Iglesia de San Pedro

It was closed a few days ago when I first passed by but it is a Sunday, the doors were open and I entered.

Nice looking doors

San Pedro himself

This church is another good one

It even has a sarcophagus

Beautiful Mosaic

Old looking pillars but this
church only dates back to 1954 A.D.

In a passageway behind
the main altar

I liked this modern crucifix

San Pedro, yet again

"On this rock, I will build my church."

People strolling on the
Playa de San Lorenzo

The Camino de Santiago
continues this way . . .

. . . through Gijón's Plaza Mayor

A street fair in the Plaza Mayor

I may have bought some sweets
from her, I mean it is possible

The produce looked good

A sidra server statue overlooking
the Plaza Mayor

I could not resist buying a package
of the spicy chorizo after eating
one of their samples

I like arcades

This old edifice is now the
Museo Barjola that displays art

Back to the old homestead . . .

. . . to do the first two loads
of laundry of my stay in Gijón

The Mariners posted lots of photos today from yesterday's Coslada Camioneros game.

One tough LB

A tough DE

DE and Team Captain

Tackling this Western Colorado RB
was problematic

The LOS on a Camioneros Punt

This first time Senior Wide Receiver
had a GREAT day!

The Line of Scrimmage with
the Mariners on Offense

Diving won't get it done against
this Running Back . . .

. . . but swarming can

That might just be holding,
not sure

Channeling my inner Paul Sabolić
while making a game time adjustment
that worked

Bodies everywhere

Celebrate Good Times!

It's nasty in the Pit

Third and Short, let the fun begin

He's loose again

Most of my afternoon and evening
was spent breaking down the
Camioneros game video on our
HUDL platform

The last Serie A game of the
weekend was played today

In an Eastern Conference game, the Terrassa Reds (1-0) beat the Barcelona Pagessos (0-1), 21-0.

State by state backers in the
upcoming CFP Title Game

Posted by an unbiased Notre Dame underground alumnus, I'm sure.

Finally, the Rams will play the
Vikings in Arizona on Monday night
in a Wild Card game

It was another good and quite busy day.
