Another morning awakening to a big game result from America.
This time it was from the world of college football.
A strong performance from
the Buckeyes I am told
A year ago, in the four team playoff
format, they would not have had
the opportunity to compete for
a National Championship
Talk about a phoenix like end of a journey after losing to Michigan in the last game of the regular season, great resiliency.
Alabama is still the Gold Standard
The LNFA put up a nice graphic
of the current Serie A standings
After only two weeks of play, seven of the ten clubs already have at least one loss.
So, what did I see on my
morning walk today?
John Maynard?
Our local socialist party HQ building
has lots of murals
Being pro-Palestine is a big issue that
I've also seen in Argentina, Brazil and
Chile in recent months of travel
Sentiments like this one . . .
. . . this one . . .
. . . this one . . .
. . . and this one too
The recent cease fire agreement in the Middle East sounds like a step forward on this issue.
I stumbled upon our local
inter-city bus terminal
If the weather cooperates, I'll take a bus from here tomorrow for the 30 km/18 mile ride to the picturesque village of Villaviciosa.
A new plaza to explore
Nice old building on Plaza Europa
Another free entry museum that
is also on Plaza Europa . . .
. . . housed in this lovely structure
Its three stories contain the work of Gijón's own favorite son, Asturian painter Nicanor Piñole (1878-1978).
Let's take a look at some of his works that struck a chord with me.
How cavalier
Soccer star Eduardo Prendes
was a great player for the Gijón
Sports Club, the forerunner of today's
Real Sporting de Gijón team
I loved the two on the left
talking at the window
What a wonderful world to explore,
young man!
First Communion
The ravages of the Spanish Civil War
that was fought from 1936-1939
Refugees also during the Civil War
The Socialists won the elections
in 1932 setting up the Republic
Here a worker is now seen empowered to drive out the oppressive conservatives who are seen fleeing for their lives, a precursor of the impending armed conflict.
Portrait of a typical Spanish Abuela
We had a great Spanish Abuela growing up.
Piñole's bargueño or writing desk
It was well worth the price of admission and a nice break in my walk.
One just doesn't see buildings of
this color in Camarillo
Coppelia is also the name of the
big ice cream shop in Havana
Now we are talking, I entered
It looked old inside
It had a cool looking brass beer tap but . . .
. . . I was here for the churros y chocolate
Divine at only 2.90€.
A reminder, don't spill your
bottle of nail polish
But if you do, this store has several shades of polish to replace it.
The Mariners hard at work from
8:00 p.m. to 10:10 p.m. tonight
I spent most of my afternoon working on a game plan to slow down the Las Rozas Black Demons (2-0) on Saturday night in Madrid.
We have a large, physical tiger by the tail.
Thoughts from the net . . .
Fond childhood memories indeed
Or one of my grandsons either
