Orange-Wildcats in a CYBA Barn Burner

Saturday, January 20, 2024
Today was a wet, rainy day which made for the perfect setting for a basketball game at the Camarillo Boys and Girls Club Arena.

It was the CYBA's third Saturday
of games for the Grade 6 League

Jacob using a screen to his
advantage in one last pre-game drill

It was now Game Time and it promised to be a good one.

Orange (1-1) vs. Wildcats (1-1)

The Orange won the opening tipoff

Crashing the Boards

A wall of Orange smothering this rebound

defense!
Defense!!
DEFENSE!!!

Start of another Orange fast break

End of the First Quarter
Orange - 6
Wildcats - 2

That round ball draws a crowd

Jacob on Defense again

his left hand to dribble

Bjorn Borg vs. Cobra Kai headbands

Solid athletic body positioning

A subtle stepping on an opponent's
foot is another form of solid defense

Halftime Score
Orange - 16
Wildcats - 9

The Orange was in solid control of the game throughout the First Half.

In this league, each player must play a minimum of two full quarters in each game. With a comfortable lead, our best player and only consistent scoring threat, Enzo, sat out the Third Quarter.

Vanessa captured this excellent
defensive block by Jacob on video

It was a proud moment for all of us as we watched it unfold.

Truth be told, I am happy watching Jacob giving great effort week after week. That is all that a coach or grandparent can ask for I believe.

Getting ready for the Third Quarter

There is a ton of running in
these Saturday afternoon games

About to shoot

Action under the basket

Boxing Out

Defending an inbounds pass

Who wants this rebound?

One-on-One Defense

End of the Third Quarter
Orange - 19
Wildcats - 17

The Wildcats did a good job getting back into the game in the Third Quarter. Things were getting exciting.

Lining up another rebound

Leaping on Defense

Battling for the ball

Jacob hiding and flowing at the same time

Good body positioning again

Sitting out in the Fourth Quarter

The Orange led the entire game until there was 0:04 left in the game.

At that point one of the Wildcats launched a three point shot that hit the rim, caromed about three feet in the air and then dropped straight through the basket for the Wildcats first lead of the game and the win.

Disappointing, but that is the drama of sports after all, "The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat."

Final Score
Wildcats (2-1) - 26
Orange (1-2) - 25

After the game we headed to Camarillo's iconic El Tecolote Mexican Restaurant to enjoy a late lunch while we licked our wounds.

Jacob bounced back slowly

We all talked him back to mental health

Mary is just so darned photogenic!

By the end of our meal we were all smiles

Saturday mornings are fun for me as TV's Turner Classic Movie channel shows fun 1940s era serials.

A Buck Rogers serial episode has been
aired each Saturday for 11 weeks now

Today's episode, "Prince of Bondage," was riveting thanks to its amazing plot twists and the intricate state-of-the-art CGI graphics.

The Canadian Football League
as we know it today was created

I never knew that the Munsters

Sorry to end this post on such a bad pun, but I thought it was funny.
