CYBA Orange Basketball Saturday

Saturday, January 13, 2024

After missing the Opening Game of the 2024 CYBA season last week due to my COVID-19 self-induced quarantine, I was anxious to watch grandson Jacob's Boys Grade 6 Orange team in action today.

The CYBA stresses a fun, nurturing

in its games and practices

The Orange (o-1) had a tough game today against the Boilermakers (1-0) or so we thought, because the Orange would only have six of their eight players show up today. They played hard, determined basketball today.

During warm-ups, we hoped that
more players would arrive . . .

. . . but they did not

The Orange were playing good
defense and running the floor

Jacob did a great job under the
glass grabbing several rebounds

Nice screen by the Boilermakers

Jacob battling for another board

This short jumper just missed

Find that open man, Jacob

Keep running . . .

. . . keep working . . .

. . . keep hustling . . .

. . . and keep REBOUNDING!

About to drive to the basket

The Orange started off like the proverbial house on fire today.

End of the First Quarter
Orange 19
Boilermakers 7

WOW!

Considering that the Orange only scored 27 points total last week, I must say that it was an impressive start today.

Could these five keep the peddle
to the metal in the Second Quarter?

Jacob is the designated
inbound passer for the Orange

Defense

Another Orange fast break

When one inbounds . . .

. . . one must do it with flair

Jacob easily found another open
man on this inbounds play

Free Throws are a great time
to catch your breath

Crashing the boards

Jacob also is the designated
inbounds pass defender

Cut off that passing lane

The Orange Defense was tough today
challenging every Boilermakers shot

Look who showed up to the game!

Why it was none other than Annia, on the left, and her friend Elsia. It was strange to see them by themselves without their good friend Mary.

There's Mary, the gangs all here!

A flashier inbounds pass

Defense by all of the Orange

The Half ended with this inbounds
pass with maximum flair

The Orange was a force so far today.

At the Half
Orange 31
Boilermakers 10

DOUBLE WOW!!

Could the Orange sustain this level of shooting and defensive excellence for yet another quarter?

Another chance at a rebound

Trying to find the open man

One-on-One Defense

Fighting for a loose ball

Jacob truly likes to mix it
up on the hardwoods

Start of yet another Orange fast break

Driving to the bucket

Getting back on Defense

The Orange defending well again

These two hooligans were thrown into
the CYBA jail for rowdy behavior

I was proud of Jacob's hustle
and effort today

Launching up another shot

Eventually, one of Jacob's shots is going to wind up in the basket.

Hustling after another loose ball

The McDonald's Unicorn Ice Cream
Squishy may have had a small file
in it for a possible prison break

End of the Third Quarter
Orange 45
Boilermakers 12

With the game well in hand, the Orange slowed down the pace considerably in the Fourth Quarter.

Jacob working to get open

Another loose ball but in a
definitely unusual spot . . .

. . . but Jacob still got it

Turn and . . .

. . . FIRE!

The Prison Gang was going WILD!

Jacob would finally get to leave the game for the first time with five minutes left in the contest.

WONDERFUL effort today young man!

Final Score
Orange (1-1) 50
Boilermakers (1-1) 24

What a great day to be an Orange!
