A Busy Start to the New Year

Thursday, January 3 - Thursday, January 10, 2019

A busy week to be sure to start off the New Year that started with fun lunchtime meetings with friends and ended with some quality family time in Las Vegas.

A lunch date with Rio Mesa teacher
Martha Jimenez-Ito is always good
for more than a few giggles

Cheesecake Factory red velvet cheesecake is the right choice after having a salad for lunch isn't it?

So was lunch the next day at BJ's Brewery in Burbank with Mike D'Antuono and Paul Sabolic where we solved all of the problems facing Husky Nation.

After our fun lunch in Burbank, I stopped to pick up some much needed provisions at . . .

. . . the Porto's Bakery that
specializes in Cuban cuisine

Two dozen meat pastries saw Laurie and I through the weekend.

On Sunday we drove up to Santa Barbara.

The Paseo still had up their
Christmas decorations

 A avenging angel?

Nothing says Christmas
like a Nutcracker

Laurie is such a
social butterfly

On the way home from Santa Barbara,
a cheeseburger in Carpinteria
hit The Spot

I leave for Season II with the
Varese Skorpions soon

We have 21 teams signed up
for the 2019 Italian DII season

This is down slightly from the 24 clubs in DII last year.

In 2018, DII was divided into six, four team conferences. We all played eight regular season games made up of six home-and-away conference games plus two non-conference games against teams from two separate conferences.

This coming weekend FIDAF, the governing body of American football, will announce the 2019 conference alignments and regular season schedules.

The Rams had a bye in Week #1
of the NFL playoffs

The Rams will host the Dallas Cowboys this coming Saturday in a Divisional playoff game.

On Monday our home hosted
a mushroom we were told

Only it was a really Mary

Monday was also the night of the
Biggest Game in College Football

It was the #1, 14-0 Alabama Crimson Tide against the #2, 14-0 Clemson Tigers.

It should have been a tight, nail biter type of a game.

It wasn't

Tuesday morning was my day
to apply for my Italian work visa
at the Consulate in Los Angeles

 It went amazingly smoothly

Who would have guessed?

We just had to stop at Philippe's
for a double-dipped French sandwich
after the Consulate before driving
on to Las Vegas for a few days

Walking grandson Kevin
to school on a Las Vegas
Wednesday morning

 Scorpions in Las Vegas?

Lots of Scorpions in Las Vegas!

When will they ever learn to spell it with a K ?

Where were we driving you ask?

To an ice rink to watch the NHL
Vegas Golden Knights practice

That's a lot of pucks!

Back at the Las Vegas version of Casa Contreras, it was time for dinner and games.

Who is that man behind the
Foster Grant sunglasses?

 Why it's Kevin Contreras!

Thursday at the Bellagio
on the Strip

Nice Floor

 Nice Ceiling

Nice Horse

Eau!

Glorious Flowers

Un Cafe at the Bellagio's
Palio Cafe

Shades of the great horse race
in Siena

A single scoop of Gelato costs
only $5.99 USD!

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, get me to Italy, STAT!

John Mull's Road Kill BBQ
is the perfect spot for a take-out
dinner for five

After dinner we played a few fun rounds of Uno Attack.

Adding a card spitting dinosaur into
the mix of the great family game
of Uno is, well, . . .

FANTASTIC!

Reading Is FUNdamental!

A Skyhook/Slam Dunk read
if you are a Holmes genre fan

And I am.

One more week
