The rain continued to pelt Camarillo so we made the wise decision to stay at home for most of the day. This choice gave my waterlogged body a chance to dry out after the last two days of watching high school and college football games al fresco in downpours.
For once, I played it smart.
Good news from Las Vegas . . .
The new Contreras Clan's U18 AYSO
team won the League Championship!
Andrew, on the far left, and Jill, on the far right, coached the team that included their kids Emma, Max and Kevin.
Max and Kevin were the team's two leading scorers on the season. No small feat for Kevin who at 14 is by far the youngest player on the team.
Great job family!
I was up early today and remembered that the Miami Dolphins were playing the Washington Commanders in Madrid at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. It was the first time that the NFL had played a regular season game on the Iberian Peninsula.
I knew that many of our gang of Gijón Mariners had made the four hour pilgrimage to the nation's capital for the chance to see an NFL game up close and personal.

The NFL is a big booster of Flag Football as an Olympic sport in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Spain's Women's Flag Football team has proven themselves to be one of the best squads in Europe via their performance in several international tournaments.
I noticed a familiar face at the beginning of the above video.
It was Daniel Castañon with his
arms raised saluting the crowd
Daniel is the Head Coach of the team and was also the co-founder of the Gijón Mariners who is a quiet leader who is all in when it comes to the sport of flag football both with the Mariners and the National Team.
Great guy!
By the way, the Dolphins (4-7) beat the Commanders (3-8) in that game in Spain by a score of 16-13 in an overtime thriller.
The new Associated Press Top 25
came out today
The now 7-3 Washington Huskies are again not listed which is not surprising given only one quality win, over Illinois (7-3), and last week's loss to Wisconsin (3-7).
Still, the Dawgs are bowl eligible with two games at UCLA (3-7) and Oregon (9-1) at home left on their regular season schedule. Win those two games and I think we will be in the Top 25 again.

Battle for First Place in the NFC West
We were glued to our TV all afternoon as we watched the Seattle Seahawks (7-2) take on our Los Angeles Rams (7-2) at SoFi Stadium.
It was a real nail biter that came down to a Field Goal attempt by the Seahawks to win the game on the last play of the game.
It was both short and to the right!

We are now set up for another busy football weekend with three games on three nights on our dance card. Rain is again expected this coming weekend.
On Friday night, at 7:00 p.m., we will attend one of two C.I.F.-Southern Section Semifinal playoff games being played in the Ventura County area. The choices are a DVI game that sees the Ventura H.S. Cougars (10-2) at the Agoura H.S. Chargers (10-2) or a DXII skirmish that will have the host Santa Paula H.S. Cardinals (7-5) taking on the Bellflower H.S. Buccaneers (8-4).
Jacob wants us to see the Ventura-Agoura game but we are still in negotiations based on the best place for our pre-game meal.
Saturday night at the Rose Bowl

With rain expected again this week, the Brookside Golf Course that serves as the Rose Bowl's parking lot will most likely be closed. That fact plus the 7:30 p.m. Kickoff means no tailgating that evening so we'll park in Old Town Pasadena and take a shuttle bus into the stadium instead.
Jacob has already offered up El Tepeyac in Boyle Heights for Mexican food for our pre-game meal on Saturday.
We are raising him well.
On Sunday, we are headed to SoFi Stadium.

Donald is Jacob's favorite player, thus the reason for this first venture into the world of professional football.

That's a total of nine teams that we saw this year still playing late in November. We saw some great high school games this season.
With that in mind . . .
After all of our recent boys' trips and adventures, I felt that we were long overdue for dinner and a movie.
I asked Laurie out for a date and she said, "YES!"
I let her pick the dining spot and the movie of her choice.
She decided that we would dine at Camarillo's Old Time New York Deli & Bakery Co., which was a solid choice on her part.
So was her decision to see a thought provoking, psychological thriller film.
Great acting by all of our players
and a plot of great historical interest
Nuremberg is the story of Nazi Germany's Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring and the U.S. Army psychiatrist, Douglas Kelley, assigned to investigate the personalities and monitor the mental status of Göring and the other high ranking Nazis in custody before the start of the famed Nuremberg War Trials after WWII.
Riveting.
We both highly recommend that you see this one on the Silver Screen.
It was another good day to be alive.
