Giving in to Temptation and Back on the Practice Field Again

Tuesday, February 18, 2025
I spent the morning breaking down more of the Coslada Camioneros' (2-2) game videos as I want our team to have as much information as possible for our game this coming Saturday.

With that task finally finished, I broke out of my lethargy and hit the bricks again for a much needed dose of physical fitness.

Near the Gijón Train Station

I have been led to believe that this is THE spot for churros on the weekends.

It was Tuesday.

Interesting sign announcing
that this is a high school . . .

. . . that must teach Geometry

This high school was plastered
with signs like this one

They were announcing an upcoming strike on March 7th by female students against gender based violence starting at Noon in Oviedo, the capital of Asturias.

A random and obviously newer church

The BVM above the main altar,
not her Son

He was seen in his usual
pose but on a side altar

I don't recall seeing this odd positioning of the Madonna and her Child in any other church at home or abroad.

The BVM was prominent on
the outside of this church as well

If you have a sweet tooth,
then this is the place for you

Funky architecture in front of . . .

. . . the Los Fresnos shopping mall

We drive by it every night on the way home from practice but this was my first time finding it on foot.

I entered.

It has five floors offering several
shopping possibilities . . .

. . . including the smallest IKEA
that I have ever seen

It occupied just one simple mall shop store area. I believe that you can just order things at this site.

I could have used their usual IKEA food court but none was to be had.

Lots to explore on a floor by floor basis

Wait, what was that across the way
occupying two floors?

Oh goodness, I had stumbled across
the second McDonald's in Gijón

The video menu looked interesting

I gave in to temptation

Left to Right: A large order of French Fries, a crispy McChicken sandwich with bacon, an Oreo McFlurry and a Coke Zero (I was watching my weight after all).

I had broken my self-imposed European Culinary Prime Directive by eating at an American chain restaurant but it did taste good I must sadly report.

E.T Meets King Kong

Spotted by the mall's multi-screen cinema, now that would have been quite a movie,

The anti-bull fighting sentiment
is strong in northern Spain

The Museum Sidrería caught my eye

Another spot for churros

I was enjoying a bit of . . .

. . . an Art Walk today

Another call to arms for students
this weekend in Madrid this time
We had a much better attended practice
tonight where we accomplished much

Pass blocking was big priority tonight

For the first time in three weeks,
we were able to scrimmage 11-on-11

Never a dull moment in beautiful Gijón, Spain.
