A Work Monday But Not ALL Day

Monday, February 3, 2025
Today was a long day on the HUDL app working on the final video breakdown and analysis of our win over the Zaragoza Hurricanes.

I broke up the tedious work by taking three long walks.

First are the highlights from my morning walk.

One of my favorite dining spots
is only ten minutes away from here

Better yet, its doors are only 150 meters from my apartment.

A quiet Plaza Mayor in the morning light

The sea was not too wild today on
Playa de San Lorenzo

But it looked a tad wilder in the distance

Gijón greeting another day

A couple of surfers were in the water

Pacifying

Interesting stoneworks

An opening into the Iglesia de
San Pedro entrance area

It was truly a beautiful day to be alive!

I'd never noticed this door before

as the Cimavilla

That map was placed there by the
local Rotary Club

Laurie's father, Bill, was an ardent, lifelong Rotarian.

The Clock Tower

It reminded me of a blueberry

Gastronomy is HUGE in these parts

Thank goodness!

If I'd only been here on Halloween

A sneak peak at the harbor

POST NO BILLS!

This is where I usually hang out
on Friday and Saturday nights

Laurie and I ate here about ten
years ago on our first visit to Gijón

We shared several marvelous gastronomic seafood wonders that night with Mariners legends Daniel Castañon, Kiké Prado Alonso and former Head Coach Jesús Sánchez.

Cool old building

I wonder what used to be here
before it was walled up?

What is this yellow goop placed
on buildings when a formerly
adjoining one is torn down?

Pleasing street signs

I entered the nearby Capilla de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.

One rarely sees statues of
San Cipriano

Small chapel, small altar

The tomb of Gijòn's favorite son,
Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos,
is in this quaint chapel

San Roque is another rarely
seen saint but I love his hat!

The old Roman walls

They were quite thick actually

An old wall to be sure but I do not
think that dates from Roman times

If you are going nowhere,
these are the stairs for you!

A mysterious looking dining spot

My morning stroll now complete, I put in another two hours of work before heading out for lunch.

Playa de Poniente looked
really good at midday

Lunch here was the call

Grilled meats Argentine style
are their specialty

Monday's Menu included two
options for each of the three courses

The jug of red wine was a no-brainer

Option #1, Plato de Lomo

These were tasty pork pieces that I nearly inhaled.

Option #2, Fideua de Chipirón

A traditional squid pasta dish that I found to be interesting in both flavor and texture.

Option #3, Solomillo Cabrales

These were pork tenderloin chunks in an AWESOME, STRONG Queso de Cabrales sauce. The French fries were good as well.

To review, Queso de Cabrales is Asturias' version of bleu cheese on steroids.

I love it.

The flan for dessert and cafe cortado finished off a great lunch.

Back to work in the apartment . . .

At about 8:45 p.m., I went out one last time.

The harbor was serene

The Sidra Sculpture looked
wonderful lit up at night

The Plaza Mayor at night

The old Roman wall?

Perhaps but I doubt it as it is exposed to possible public abuse.

With about 90% of the Zaragoza game work done, I looked forward to a less hectic work day on Tuesday.

GOOD TIMES, INDEED!
