The longest night of the year for European American football fans was upon us once again, Super Bowl Monday.
The 59th NFL Super Bowl was set to
kickoff in New Orleans at 12:30 a.m.
Central European Time this morning
AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs (17-2)
vs.
NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles (17-3)
In pre-merger days, the Chiefs, established in 1960, won American Football League Championships in 1962, 1966 and 1969.
The Philadelphia Eagles franchise, founded in 1933, had won National Football League Championships in 1948, 1949 and 1960.
In the Super Bowl era, the Chiefs had been involved in six previous Super Bowls, winning four of them. Here are there results:
Super Bowl I, lost to the Packers 10-35
Super Bowl IV, beat the Vikings 23-7
Super Bowl LIV, beat the 49ers 31-20
Super Bowl LV, lost to the Buccaneers 9-31
Super Bowl LVII, beat the Eagles 38-35
Super Bowl LVIII, beat the 49ers 25-22 OT
The Eagles have been in four Super Bowls to date, winning once. Here are Philadelphia's Super Bowl results:
Super Bowl XV, lost to the Raiders 10-27
Super Bowl XXXIX, lost to the Patriots 21-24
Super Bowl LII, beat the Patriots 41-33
Super Bowl LVII, lost to the Chiefs 35-38
The Gijón Mariners were meeting
at the Carlin Goal Sports Bar
to watch the game
Kike picked me up at 11:00 p.m.
Sunday night to drive to the Carlin Goal
Lots of Mariners were in the building
As the Eagles dominated the game,
our crowd started to thin out
Finally, at 3:15 a.m., with Philadelphia scoring again to extend their commanding Third Quarter lead to 34-0, Kike and I decided that it was a good time to head home with the game clearly decided.
I was surprised later in the morning
to wake up and find that the Chiefs
scored 22 points after we left
The Eagles took home their
second Vince Lombardi Trophy
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was
the Super Bowl LIX MVP
I have always been impressed by Hurts's poise, calm demeanor and positive body language watching him play in both college and the NFL.
Barkley had a TREMENDOUS
season running the ball
The Chiefs did a good job keeping Barkley in check in the Super Bowl, holding him to just 57 rushing yards on 25 carries.
The Eagles win keeps this list
a blank slate for at least two
more Super Bowls
Because of the late night, I did not awake today until 11:00 a.m.
Part of the day was spent on HUDL viewing more game tapes of next Saturday's road opponent, the Osos Rivas, in Madrid.
My obligatory afternoon walk took me by some new sights.
Friday is Valentine's Day and this
dining spot has a special menu
for the occasion
In a large plaza, I spotted two take offs on Spanish painter Diego Velázquez' famed Las Meninas artwork.

Apparently, there is going to be a
conference to discuss the role of
women in soccer to be held in Gijón soon

A new one for me, I think
These seemed new as well
As I said, after a Bye Week, we
are back at it this coming Saturday
This was the Osos game week
announcement on Facebook today
I have heard no word yet as to whether our game will be live streamed, I'll keep you posted if and when I get word.
One more time for the Eagles biggest
Italian fan, Pietro Caprioli, in Varese
Sleep is a good thing.
