Touring Our Town, Spreading the Football Wealth Globally and Prepping for Brazil

Tue. & Wed., December 3-4, 2024
I finally summoned the courage to look around our fair city of Camarillo to see first hand the damage that our recent Mountain Fire had wreaked.

Along the way, I spotted this
more than interesting minibus

In the hills near our home

Charred fencepost

Charred trees too

These rusty bolts were survivors

On my drive through what is known locally as the Las Posas Estates, I saw lots of burned trees, shrubs and brush but only this one burned out car and home.

I know that we did indeed lose a lot of homes in this catastrophe last month but I was amazed at how many homes I saw still intact when all the vegetation around them had been burned to a crisp.

Firefighters are truly heroes.

The latest CFP poll came out
Tuesday night with only
Conference Championship weekend
left in the regular season

My trip to São Paulo, Brazil
starts Thursday

This trip was first planned for two weeks coinciding with my being the Special Teams Coach of the Brasil Onças National Team.

The Onças were originally scheduled to play in a four country tournament to determine the South American representative in next Summer's IFAF World Championship Tournament in Germany.

About two months ago, all three countries in formed the Brazilian officials that they could not come up with the financial backing needed to bring their teams to São Paulo for the tournament.

Thus, I was stuck with a non-refundable airline ticket.

It was non-refundable but was changeable at no additional cost.

Hence, I shortened the trip to just a week.

My ticket allowed me to travel with a 23 kg bag stowed in the cargo hold, a 12 kg carry-on and a personal item.

I planned to travel with just a carry-on and a backpack.

Hmmm, what about that 23 kg suitcase?

I called the Onças Head Coach, Brian Guzman, and asked him if he knew of any team in need of some quality, used game jerseys.

About 20 minutes later, I was contacted by Onças QB Catullo Góes, who also plays for São Paulo's Guarulhos Rhynos, saying that the Rhynos would love to get their hands on the jerseys.

I proceeded to pack 20 white and
20 brown St. Francis H.S. jerseys
into an old suitcase that we were
going to deep six soon

Voilà, the Rhynos will be getting
40 jerseys AND a used suitcase
this weekend for FREE!

There was more . . .

Catullo asked me if I would like to
go to the Rhynos game on Sunday

It just happened to be the Brazilian CBFA Division I National Championship game against the Spartans from parts unknown.

HELL YES, I'M GOING!
OBRIGADO!

The game stadium appears to be a
tad better than the one in Mendoza,
Argentina where we saw two games recently

Loving the Rhynos recap drawing of
their Semi-Final win over the Weilers

The Brazilian DI Championship Game will
see the #5 seeded Spartans tangling
with the #6 seeded Rhynos

The European League of Football
announced 16 teams for the 2025 season

The ELF added an expansion franchise in Denmark's Nordic Storm.

The Barcelona Dragons, an original ELF team, has decided to call it a day after serious financial issues the past two seasons.

The Milano Seamen have opted to sit out this season to reorganize the franchise with plans to play in the ELF again in 2026.

Now as to the last 65 St. Francis H.S. jerseys and some of the La Salle H.S. shoulder pads that all needed new homes . . .

Say hello to Spain's lovable
Guadalajara Stings

Today we shipped them two boxes
with 65 jerseys and . . .

. . . nine shoulder pads!

The two boxes fit nicely into
Laurie's Blueberry

I dropped the two boxes off with the Polonez Shipping Company agent located in Oxnard.

The shoulder pads sent
were all Smalls and Mediums

The intent here was to help outfit more of the burgeoning team of women now playing tackle football in the Stings organization.

The Stings' feminine squad will play in Spain's Western Conference this coming season along with the Las Rozas Black Demons, Osos Rivas and Zaragoza Hurricanes.

The Eastern Conference's four feminine clubs are the Barberà Rookies, Barcelona Búfals, Valencia Firebats and L'Hospitalet Pioners.

In about six to eight weeks, the Stings will receive their new used gear via the least expensive shipping servivce known to man.

I watched Season 1, Episodes 1-6
on our recent trip to Argentina,
Chile and Uruguay

I hope to see more episodes of this action packed, high quality, block buster of a TV show on the flights to São Paulo via Santiago de Chile.

No, Vince Lombardi did NOT
wear any of the shoulder pads
that we just shipped off to the Stings

Thoughts from the net . . .

Orestes "Minnie" Miñoso

This Cuban great played baseball the way God intended it to be played.

In 2022, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

E.J. Holub
Legendary Kansas City Chiefs
Center/Linebacker from 1961-1970

They seem to be finding many AFL/NFL players of that era with brain issues.

I wonder why?

Life's Adventures continue soon, stay tuned . . .
