Mon.-Wed., Sept. 23-25, 2024
Monday was the start of the 2024 Camarillo Middle School's Co-ed Flag Football season.
We had mentioned to Jacob on the flight home from the East Coast not to expect much playing time in this game due to his inability to practice because of his back issues last week.
Jacob is a Seventh Grader at Las Colinas Middle School playing his second year of Flag Football for the Mustangs 6th, 7th and 8th grade team.
Jacob's Mustangs were undefeated
in the 2023 season
The Mustangs were opening the season
at the home of their arch rival, the
Monte Vista Toros
The Mustangs kicked off first
So much for our counsel, Jacob #24,
started at Outside Linebacker
Pursue . . .
. . . Breakdown . . .
. . . Pull the flag
Sounds simple enough to me.
Mustangs on the attack!
Michael in the background pointing the
way to the End Zone for the Mustangs QB
She scored a TD on this play thanks to Michael's detailed instructions.
Back on Defense
RUN TO THE BALL!
End of the First Quarter
Las Colinas - 6
Monte Vista - 0
There she goes again!
GET THERE!
May I have this dance?
Our QB is FAST!
Successfully reaching for the
Goal Line on a two-point PAT
Halftime
Las Colinas - 19
Monte Vista - 0
Also at Halftime, Mary did a
GREAT Superwoman impression!
The Mustangs substituted liberally from the beginning of the Third Quarter.
A hole big enough to
run a truck through
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Often, a short pass can lead to . . .
. . . a long TD pass reception
End of the Third Quarter
Las Colinas - 27
Monte Vista - 0
EXCELLENT PURSUIT BY
LAS COLINAS
Watch out for your glasses!
The essence of Flag Football,
one on one match ups
Final Score
Las Colinas (1-0) - 27
Monte Vista (0-1) - 0
Before the game, Laurie and I had headed up to Oxnard for lunch.
We were about to become
over the moon happy
I have this body type
Three street tacos here are truly
not close to being enough
Moderation in all things . . .
Actually, we felt so good after lunch that we stopped off at the Carmax lot in Oxnard on the way home and bought Laurie a car.
It is a Honda CRV Sport
She has been driving her reliable 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser for 17 years. It was time for a change.
Laurie sent me this over the
weekend but I didn't hold a grudge
On Tuesday, I enjoyed a wonderful
three hour lunch with Scott Savoie
We coached together in at Westlake H.S. in the 1980s and I always thought of him as an excellent teacher. Besides football, Scott coached wrestling and track for the Warriors.
He left Westlake and continued his spectacular coaching career at first Canyon Springs H.S. and then at Bear River H.S. in Northern California.
I have been fortunate to meet some good people through coaching, Scott Savoie is one of them.
