A BIG Non-Coaching Salary and the Principality of Sealand

Tuesday, November 14, 2023

Now we move into the world of the wacky and of the weird . . .

First, if you recall, the day after Texas A&M (6-4) defeated Mississippi (4-6) by a score of 51-10 on Saturday, the Aggies fired their sixth year Head Coach, Jimbo Fisher. The move triggered a $77,600,000 buyout clause in Fisher's contract.

Not to be outdone by their SEC rivals, Mississippi State also fired their Head Coach, Zach Arnett, who was in his first season leading the Bulldogs eleven. The buyout here was a mere $4,000,000. That amount is hardly worth the accountant's time.

Let's put Fisher's Texas A&M another way.

DAMN!

If that wasn't crazy enough, there is the following perspective on Fisher's buyout.

Not only are some top level Spanish Men's Senior teams playing in the national pre-season Copa de España tournament, many of them that are located in Spain's northeast region of Catalonia are also battling in another pre-season tournament, the Copa Catalan.

Make sure you stretch before and after these games, young men.

The Sealand Seahawks at the
Mallorca Voltors next Saturday

Now, I'm well aware of Coach Jesus Sanchez and his Mallorca Voltors, but I had no clue about their opponents, the Sealand Seahawks.

I know that getting teams to play on the island of Mallorca is not easy, but where were the Seahawks from?

Well, that in and of itself is an interesting and convoluted answer.

The Seahawks represent the smallest country in the world, the Principality of Sealand.

Founded in 1967, with a populatiuon of 27 souls,  Sealand is an unrecognized, self-proclaimed micro-nation encompassing a total area of 43,060 square feet!

Sealand is found on HM Fort Roughs, an offshore platform in the North Sea approximately 12 kilometers off the coast of Suffolk, England.

Roughs Tower is a Maunsell Sea Fort that was built by the British in international waters during World War II.

I'm guessing that the Seahawks all-star squad practices on foreign soil.
