A Trip to the Ali'i Kula Lavender in the Upcountry

Friday, May 14, 2021

We started the day with our usual walk followed by a few hours . . .

. . . basking on a Kihei Beach again

In the afternoon we decided to do something new. We loaded into the car yet again for a trip Upcountry to the village of Kula to see a lavender farm.

Not just any lavender farm mind you, but the . . .

. . . Ali'i Kula Lavender farm!

At 4,000 feet in elevation it offered
commanding views of the western
half of the island of Maui

As it turned out, there were a lot more flowers to be seen than just lavender.

Most of these blossoms had a definite tropical feel to them.

Delicate

Tall, thin and orange

Just like me after another day of exercise and beach time.

WOW!

Big Red

Black?

Colorful . . .

. . . extremely colorful

Flaming

Our Mary LOVES pink

Eye popping blooms

Lavender at last!

At the very top of the farm
you find this serene deity . . .

. . . and this sweeping vista to the west

From the Lavender Farm, we opted for the short trip to the Kula Bistro for an early dinner.

Let it be said that other restaurants that we have visited over the years on Maui have much better ambience and seaside views than the Kula Bistro but the best meal that I have ever eaten on our Maui trips is the Kula Bistro's Luciano's Special "Old Time Favorite."

What is this heavenly concoction you ask?

Well, it starts with delicious penne pasta sautéed in a light Oriental cream sauce with fresh herbs, white wine, tomatoes, bay shrimp and a combination of shiitake and button mushrooms with a couple of slices of garlic bread.

The sauce is simply AMAZING!

It was on our way home back to Kihei, we had to hurry before the dreaded Kula Bistro Food Coma hit us all.

Just another day in Paradise!
