Press Conference Day

Sunday, August 12, 2018

We are in Chihuahua, Mexico with just one purpose in mind . . .

. . . to WIN!

All of the people involved with our opponents, the UACH Águilas, and the city of Chihuahua did everything that they could to make us feel welcome and to promote the game.

Nice local TV promo ad for the game

The main contingent of the Warriors were scheduled to arrive at midday giving us a little time to relax.

Our hotel, the Fiesta Inn, is located
at this intersection

I know that it is the ancient Aztec word for "Golden Gophers" but is that spelling correct?

About to give up writing this block
for the week

My five year old laptop is on life support as the letters r-t-y-u-i-o are not connecting properly thus make blogging a very slow, laborious process.

Thus the reason for the late posting of the week's activities.

Arriving Warriors from Europe

Once we were all here, the Warriors were made up of 43 players and ten coaches/support staff.

Our first team breakfast in the hotel
was followed by our first team meeting

The first order of business was to introduce our new Head Coach.

Jesús Sanchez, Europe Warriors co-founder, was scheduled to be our HC but pressing family issues kept him in Madrid.

Jesús conferred with our team's other co-founder, Bart Iaccarino, and they decided that the new HC would be . . .

Me.

This was not what I wanted but I could not say no to these two men that I greatly respect.

I was now the Head Coach, the Special Teams Coach and the Offensive Line Coach of the Warriors.

Just another week in EuroBall.

OC Dan Levy at the white board

Dan is the Head Coach of the powerhouse Prague Black Panthers that just won the Czech Republic league title.

He proved to be a great guy to coach with, I hope our paths cross again soon.

Offensive Linemen
Alfonso Ruitiña (Spain), Francesco Borromeo (Italy) and Jack Pedersen (Denmark)

Jack was our starting Center for our Europe Warriors game in Mexico City last August.

More Offensive Linemen . . .
Jan Raus (Czech Republic) and
Keith Riley (United Kingdom)

A late arrival, Offensive Lineman
Manny Baxter (USA)

 Lunch in the Fiesta Inn

Afterwards, we all boarded the team bus for our Press Conference at . . .

. . . The Mall!

LOVE this country and its people
no matter what Mr. Trump says

Laurie and I fell in love with this
department store chain when
we honeymooned in Mexico City in 1971

Caramel crêpes to die for!

 The UACH Adelitas cheer squad
was ready to "Meet the Press"

The crowd was assembling

A good way to publicize the contest

Introducing two of our returning
Warriors from the 2017 game,
LBs Hector Gamboa (USA) and
Alex Posito (Spain)

 The Europe Warriors

 The UACH Águilas

With UACH Head Coach
Javier Trevizo Fernandez
after the Press Conference

Javier is a gracious host and a fine American football coach that is in his first campaign as HC of the Águilas.

He definitely has them headed in the right direction, Hard Work Works!

On Monday we will have two practices where the competition will help sort out our depth chart quickly I'm sure.

Go Warriors GO!

I guess Jesus and Bart knew how to keep you out of trouble. Or restaurants.

Trouble, maybe.

Restaurants, NEVER!
