Wednesday, August 15, 2018

First and foremost . . .

Happy 94th Birthday
to my Mother Chuny!

Next up are a lot of Tuesday practice photos mostly from Sue Valdivia.

Words of Wisdom

43 players with lots of cool helmets

Warm Up

Donald Mull did a masterful
job coordinating our training staff!

WR Jan Stiegler . . . Dude

WR Martino Piazzi . . . Promising

RB/K Eduardo Palacin . . . Interesting

QB Erik Perez . . . Reliable

OLs Manny Baxter and
Keith Riley . . . Workers

DB Nicolas Principi and
Coach Mike Contreras . . . Interacting

WR/K Stefano Di Tunisi . . . Iced

After two days of double days, today we would have just one practice in the morning, a scrimmage at that, and visit Chihuahua's historic city center in the afternoon.

It looked like a BEAUTIFUL day
for American football!

Checking out the UACH trophy case
while the players got taped

Big moment in UACH history

More big moments for the Águilas
American football program

Roster from the 1964 and 1965
Championship Teams

Our goal Saturday night is to ensure that UACH does not get another trophy for their trophy case.

Sue Valdivia dolls are all
the rage in Mexico!

Let the scrimmage begin

QB Doug Webster in action

WR Mario Flores with a catch

DB Nicolas Principi defending
WR Matt Viñal

BLOCK THAT KICK!

DB Tobias Fuchs in hot pursuit!

Linemen on Three!

We may have broken our post-practice OL huddle with a slightly more colorful chant.

Inability to remember = Plausible Deniability

Today's Ice Baths are that-a-way

Mike at a UACH campus
temple dedicated to . . .

Local hero of the Mexican Revolution,
General Pancho Villa

Archery is BIG in Chihuahua!

So is the search for the perfect
street taco for lunch

Lunch for three people at this
sorta shop was 163 pesos,
about $8.50 USD

VIVA MEXICO!

Mexico's cool flag is used
in local advertising effectively

An unmarked monument
near our hotel

On to downtown Chihuahua

A statue is a MUST on a city's
Main Plaza

Classic Cathedral

More of the Main Plaza

Impressive Government Building

The city is Chihuahua after all

At this point Mike and I broke away from the group with the promise to return so that we could travel by taxi further afield to check out . . .

The Home of General Pancho Villa
which is now Chihuahua's Museum
of the Mexican Revolution

Mike teaches History and I love History, so away we went.

The good General lived in a
not so modest home

That car behind Mike is of interest

It's a Dodge and, yes,
that IS a bullet hole in the radiator

More bullet holes in our Dodge

The good General was assassinated in 1923 by rivals seeking more power in the new Mexican government.

A happy Me and Pancho

A somber Mike and the General

Lots of GREAT murals decorated
the Museum

Loving the man on the right!

General Pancho Villa on the attack

Guerrera

It was a good visit, now to
rejoin the team ithe city center

Colorful locals in native dress

The Eiffel Tower?

A random mural

LB Mike Garza . . .
Aah Chihuahua

Day of the Dead lady Got Back!

A Federal Building

Another look at a government building

Getting hungry . . .

Ten al pastor tacos for only 70 pesos?

That's only $3.70 USD!

Viva Mexico Yet Again!

With DBs Tobias Fuchs and Danny Tam

Coach Mike Contreras took this photo and spilt the ten tacos with me.

Chihuahua's Cathedral at night

It was another GREAT day for American football and Media Day is tomorrow.
