Tragedy in Spain, Joy in Milwaukee

Wednesday, October 28, 2026

We awaken to terrible news from Spain this morning, there had been an horrific train crash involving two high speed trains.

69 Dead and over 100 Injured

This deadly accident occurred near Toledo and apparently happened due to computer error between a train stopped on the rails and another one high-balling it down the tracks.

Knowing how many times we have ridden in comfort and perceived safety on these so-called bullet trains both in Spain and other European countries over the years, it gave me a pause to stop and reflect.

Life is indeed short, enjoy every single second of it.

Speaking of enjoying life

I brought burgers home to Laurie for lunch today from Camarillo's recently refurbished and finally re-opened local In-N-Out mecca.

It was good to taste a Flying Dutchman again.

AI prediction favors Nebraska
over Washington on Saturday

Let's play the game, I have a good feeling about the Huskies in this one for some completely irrational feeling.

Now, THIS is how all rivalry
days in the Fall should be scheduled

We'll miss the East L.A. Classic between Roosevelt H.S. and Garfield H.S. this Friday night but will be there in spirit.

Early prediction of the
C.I.F.-Southern Section's D5 playoffs

Simi Valley (5-4), the #8 seed in this predicted playoff bracket, will be the team that we will watch this coming Friday night with the Sabolićs in the Pioneers' Marmonte League finale at the home of the Pacifica Tritons (7-2) in Oxnard.

In the evening, we watched Game 5 of the 2026 World Series.

John Belushi was a Rays fan,
who knew?

Our cat, Gumball, was interested
in the game, lounging on our "furniture"
in our renovation war zone

By the way, renovation efforts finally resume on Friday with the arrival of our drywall man.

Note the hole in the wall to the right of our TV that is sitting atop the box containing our yet uninstalled toilet.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat
the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5

Which means that . . .

The Milwaukee Brewers are the
2026 World Series Champions

They won their first ever World Series Championship by besting the Rays four games to one.

The Brewers dominated the post-season

In their three post-season series, Milwaukee posted an 11-2 record. They are truly deserving to wear the crown after a year that saw them with a combined regular and post-season record of 114-61!

Funny

Funny, that is, if you remember that the Milwaukee Brewers franchise wax founded in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots as an American League expansion club.

While Laurie and I supported the Pilots by attending their Opening Day game in that long ago 1969 season, the team was rife with financial problems that forced their move to Milwaukee to start the 1970 campaign.

On a side note, the Seattle Mariners, a newer expansion American League team that starting in 1977 finally filled the Pacific Northwest's void since the Pilots morphed into the Brewers are still the only one of the 30 MLB franchises to never play in a World Series.
