A Rare High School Football Doubleheader and a Delightful Evening of Shenanigans With Friends

Thursday, October 22, 2026
We only have one update today on the renovation front, our new painters came into our home to size up the job of repainting the three rooms that we are remodeling and remove the ancient popcorn ceiling from the TV room.

Progress continues steadily.

It's Thursday, so that means Game #9 of Jacob's Frosh football season.

Camarillo H.S. Scorpions
3 Wins - 5 Losses

at

Santa Clara H.S. Saints
Record Unknown

The Saints, we were told, was an amalgam of Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors, 14 in all that Santa Clara put together to have this game.

Regardless of their ages, I for one was happy that the Scorpions were playing a game today.

The Camarillo Scorpions did a good job today of mixing up their line-up and play calls to keep the game under control given their vast superiority in raw numbers.

HERE COME THE SCORPIONS!

While it rained steadily during the pre-game warm-ups, the rain thankfully stopped when the game started.

Every game starts with a Kickoff

Camarillo DL pressing the LOS

That might be a hold to spring
the Saints rather large QB

Good Punt Block team pressure

Camarillo with a fine Punt Return

Outside run for a TD!

This Scorpions' PAT was blocked

Excellent Pass Rush led to this . . .

. . . PICK-SIX!

More Camarillo pressure
off the edge

Again flummoxing the Saints QB

This SCHS Punt almost became
a Drop Kick

Lots of white jerseys about to
reach blue #83

We began to see competitive play

End of the First Quarter
Camarillo - 14
Santa Clara - 0

He could go . . .

. . . ALL THE WAY!

Ensuing Kickoff Coverage

SCHS about to take to the air

QB scrambling . . .

. . . uh-oh, for a big gain . . .

. . . but good pursuit saved the day!

SC QB dropping back and . . .

. . . completing a short Drag Route

GET THERE #37!

Making a cut for another solid gain

This play looked good as well

Still playing hard

Halftime Score
Camarillo - 21
Santa Clara - 0

The Scorpions were in control but were definitely not being abusive or disrespectful.

The Camarillo Kickoff Return . . .

. . . to start the Second Half . . .

. . . was good for another . . .

. . . Camarillo TD!

The Defense Pursuit continued

Jacob coming off the Edge . . .

. . . to pressure the Saints behemoth QB

Saints getting to the outside . . .

. . . Camarillo CB to the rescue!

Solid tackle by #68

Jacob at WB being asked . . .

. . . to be a lead blocker,
GOOD JOB!

The loneliness of a WR on an
overcast afternoon in Oxnard, CA

The Pit ALWAYS gets real quickly!

One-on-One, the essence of football

Great pass break-up by the Scorpions
to finish the period

End of the Third Quarter
Camarillo - 28
Santa Clara - 0

Saints were letting it rip . . .

. . . but still mixed in a run or two

GET THERE!

Solid DB play again by Camarillo

Everybody lean to the right

I like this QB pressure that led . . .

. . . to an errant pass . . .

. . . that fell incomplete

Rip and Dip!

The QB pressure was relentless no
matter who was on the Scorpions DL

A wide open receiver for a Scorpions TD

A wide open receiver for a . . .

. . . Saints TD on the last play
of the game!

Dignity for the Saints was a good thing for those of us who believe that shutouts are fascist.

Final Score
Camarillo (4-5) - 35
Santa Clara (?-?) - 8

The final Camarillo Frosh football game of the 2026 season will take place at home next Thursday at 4:00 p.m. vs. the Serrano H.S. Diamondbacks (5-4).

Three happy campers after the game

Our football day was hardly done, we had agreed to meet Joanne and Paul Sabolić for dinner the Shoreline Cafe in Santa Barbara before attending their son Jason's game at Santa Barbara City College's wondrous La Playa Stadium.

While it poured buckets on our drive up the coast, the rain stopped when we got to Santa Barbara.

The Rain Gods were on our side once again.

Jason Sabolić is Simi Valley's
highly regarded Wide Receiver Coach

Simi Valley H.S. Pioneers
4 Wins - 4 Losses, Overall
0 Wins - 3 Losses, Marmonte League

vs.

Bishop Diego H.S. Cardinals
2 Wins - 6 Losses, Overall
0 Wins - 3 Losses, Marmonte League

at
Santa Barbara City College

The Pioneers came out hot and heavy!

This PAT made it 14-0 in the
First Quarter

The Cardinals scored a TD in the
Second Quarter

I am not 100% sure who or what
this is all about but we support it

Joann and Laurie were having
a good time as the Pioneers were
in cruise control mode

I was much more pensive during the
Cardinals Homecoming Halftime Festivities

Come to think of it, so was Laurie

The too of us are enjoying life
to the FULLEST every day

Final Score
Simi Valley (5-4, 1-3 ML) - 40
Bishop Diego (2-7, 0-4 ML) - 14

While we only had about a 50 minute drive to get home, the Sabolićs were looking at close to a two hour drive to their abode.

We were concerned about their long drive and all agreed that a stop about half way for them would be a good idea, but where?

Of course, Rolling Pin Donuts
in Camarillo!

Obviously, we made the right call

An absolutely perfect ending to a fun day!

Did I mention that we made a
breakfast burrito stop at
Estabalos Meat Market this morning?

We may have to take a serious look at their tamales in the next few weeks.

Our old coaching friend,
Michael Wood, is the new DC
with Italy's IFL-DI Torino Giaguari

CONGRATULATIONS,
MICHAEL!

Speaking of the IFL, Milano
will soon be getting a new
franchise in 2027

Darn good day, THANK YOU everybody!
