More Solitude Until Chester Arrives

Wednesday, May 27, 2026
Another calm day with a perfect houseguest in Mallory who, when she is not working on-line, just enjoys reading a good book in the wonderful SoCal sunshine.

She fits in perfectly to our lifestyle.

We opted for a late lunch at Camarillo's Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill.

Mallory opted for the small
pulled pork BBQ sandwich

Laurie opted for her usual order of BBQ chicken breast while I ordered a healthy tri-tip salad.

Great dining and chatting all the way around.

After dining, we headed over to the Hertz Rental Car office in Camarillo for Mallory to pick up a car for the rest of the week.

Not quite as busy as the
Hertz office at LAX

She scored a nice, roomy Nissan

Her beau, Chester, arrives from Seattle tonight at 9:45 at the Hollywood-Burbank Airport.

I didn't want her driving down there by herself, so I opted to be her chauffeur again.

We arrived at this great
metropolitan airport with
just enough time to . . .

. . . peruse the travel brochures
on display about two of SoCal's . . .

. . . MAJOR tourist destinations

Of course, a stop at the iconic
Rolling Pin Donuts is atop any
traveler's list of things to do
when visiting Camarillo

Just ask Joanne or Paul Sabolić.

Finally, Mallory and Chester
were reunited for the one
hour drive back to Casa Contreras

Back to football . . .

As expected, EuroBall guru Julien Urgenti was quick to respond to yesterday's query about a possible European Super Bowl this year between the champions of the two latest attempts at mega-leagues, the American Football League of Europe (AFLE) and the European Football Alliance (EFA).

Julien says that no such game is planned at the conclusion of this season in September or in the foreseeable future for that matter.

Pity.

The Los Angele Rams
are gearing up for a Super Bowl
run of their own in the NFL

A good poster for Sunday's
Spanish DII Playoff Semifinal

Jerez Jaguars (6-0)
Sur Conference #1 Seed
at
Alcobendas Cavaliers (8-0)
Madrid Conference #1 Seed

Should be a great game but I'll still take the Cavaliers at home.

Huskies kicking off the 2026  season
vs. Washington State in the Apple Cup
game at 1:00 p.m. on a SUNDAY?

Thanks to mega-TV money, anything is possible no matter how untraditional.

Reading Is FUNdamental!

An extremely well written, detailed
account of the Battle of Gettysburg
July 1-3, 1863

Insight's into Chamberlain's successful Union Bayonet Charge down Little Round Top and the Rebel's unsuccessful and highly controversial Pickett's Charge the next day were just part of this book's charm as it explored the men involved those three fateful days in Pennsylvania thoroughly.

Vanessa's AI prowess added
to the end of reading this
most interesting Civil War tome

The string of good days continued. Hopefully there will be more to come this week.
