TITANIC Clash of Two Undefeated Camarillo Middle School Flag Football Teams

Monday, October 23, 2023

We enjoyed a beautiful Autumn afternoon which was simply the perfect setting for a late season flag football game between the last two undefeated middle schools in Camarillo.

Now 112 years old, Santa Rosa is Camarillo's oldest school by a long shot as far as I know.

This promised to be a good one and the phrase "Defense Wins Championships" would certainly be true today

Last Words of Wisdom for the Mustangs

Jacob is #5 in the black jersey
for Las Colinas

Ready at Outside Linebacker

Relentless Pursuit is the hallmark
of a good Defense

Eagles throwing the ball early

Lots of calories being burned
with all of the running

This could be a BIG PLAY
for Santa Rosa

Jacob with a solid pursuit angle

Protect our QB!

QB scrambling yards were
hard to come by this day

End of the First Quarter
Las Colinas - 0
Santa Rosa - 0

The Play of the Day

The Mustangs one and only female team member made it and a few others running and pass catching. Her pulling the Santa Rosa QB's flag in their own End Zone was a Safety, that gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.

Running on a tight rope

Las Colinas ran the ball a lot today

There she goes!

A big gain for our Player of the Game

The Santa Rosa QB's socks were
AWESOME!

Both teams moved the ball well in
the famed mid-field alumni zone

But neither club got close to scoring.

Halftime Score
Las Colinas - 2
Santa Rosa - 0

While heading to the restroom, I saw
this poster listing the Eagles four wins

The Mustangs have also defeated Mesa, CAPE and Los Primeros. They will play Monte Vista on Wednesday at home.

Hitting the open under route

Controlling the Eagles QB
was a MUST!

Twins formation in action

Getting serious in The Mini-Pit

End of the Third Quarter
Las Colinas - 2
Santa Rosa - 0

Would someone blink to break open the game?

The start of the Twins formation
Wheel Route

MUSTANG GIRL POWER!

She made a fine catch in full stride of a well thrown ball and ran another 20 yards after the catch.

Although the Mustangs did not score on this drive, the great field position that this young lady's catch gave Las Colinas was crucial in this Defensive battle.

The Eagles Offense was having
trouble moving the ball

Meanwhile, Mary was having a
BLAST on the swings!

This Mustang punt went out
of bounds at about the four yard line

Field position and the clock were both definitely on the side of Las Colinas late in the Fourth Quarter.

This interception sealed the victory

Final Score
Las Colinas (5-0) - 2
Santa Rosa (4-1) - 0

I thought that Jacob again played a solid game at Outside Linebacker, Tight End and Wide Receiver.

I really love watching him play and seeing the joy that the game of flag football seems to bring him.

It was a tense game between two good teams and if you like Defense then you would have loved it.

I do and I did!
